Bruce McGhee, 75, died Sunday, December 21, 2008 at his home in Thief River Falls, MN.
Funeral service will be 2 PM, Friday, January 2, 2009 at Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls, MN. Burial will be at St. Bernards Cemetery, Thief River Falls, MN.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Bruce Jerold McGhee was born February 11, 1933 at Crookston, MN, the son of Bruce Johnson and Myrtle Olivine (Morrow) McGhee. Bruce left school in 1950, and entered the Air Force on February 16 at Fargo, ND to serve during the Korean War. After being honorably discharged, February 19, 1953, he received his High School Diploma. Also in 1953, Bruce married Betty Jean Myers in Idaho and had a son, Jerold Stephen. This union ended shortly with divorce.
On December 6, 1963, Bruce was united in marriage to Helen Eleanor Kosmatka in Grand Forks, ND. To this union 2 children were born, Jan and Jerold. The couple lived in Grand Forks and Bemidji, MN before moving to Detroit, MI, where they were owners and caretakers of apartment buildings for 29 years. Bruce was a member of Roofers Local 149 in Detroit for 25 years before retiring in 1995.
In his younger years, Bruce enjoyed fishing, riding horse, target shooting, and most recently, going to the casino and playing cards on computer. He enjoyed walking with his dog, baking cookies and also driving his grandkids around. Bruce held membership in Thief River Falls American Legion and VFW clubs.
Bruce is survived by 2 children: Jan Hickey, Thief River Falls, MN and Jerold (Suzanne) McGhee, Royal Oak, MI; 8 grandchildren: Michael, Kristal, Joseph, Kayla, Staphanie, Andrew, Evan and Aaron; 2 great grandchildren: Jasmine and Dominic; brother: Larry (Karen) Robertson, Bemidji, MN; niece, Karen and nephews, Kevin and Larry.
He was preceded in death by wife, Helen and parents.
