Obituary

Carl Dyrseth, 87, died Friday, April 4, 2003 at home in rural Grygla, MN.

Funeral service will be 11:00 AM, Friday, April 11, 2003 at Grace Lutheran Church, Grygla, MN with Reverend Robert Dahlen officiating. Burial will be at Valle Cemetery, Benville Township, Beltrami County, MN.

Visitation will be 4 " 8 PM, Thursday, April 10, 2003 at the Johnson Green Funeral Service, Thief River Falls, MN, with a 7 PM prayer service and for one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.

Carl Leonard Dyrseth was born October 28, 1915 in Benville Township, Grygla, MN to Ole and Thora (Mattison) Dyrseth. He was raised from infancy by his foster parents, John and Boletta Haugen, due to the premature death of his mother. He attended school in Benville Township and worked on the family farm.

On July 31, 1946, Carl was united in marriage to Dorothy Clausen at Gatzke, MN. Following their marriage, they purchased the family farm, which Carl continued to operate until 1999, when he sold the last of his beef cattle and retired from farming. He continued to live on the farm until his death. In addition to farming, Carl worked for Gladen Pulp Company at Beltrami Island for many years. He also worked in various departments, including the machine shop at Arctic Enterprises, from 1966 " 1980.

He was baptized and confirmed at Valle Lutheran Church in rural Grygla and served as a deacon. He became a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Grygla, MN following the merger of the parishes. He also served as a supervisor for many years on the Benville Township Board.

Carl enjoyed hunting, watching sporting events and outdoor activities. He was also an avid reader of books on American history and many other subjects.

He is survived by two daughters, Virginia (Charles) Kettleson, Maplewood, MN, Linda (David) Ulrich, Red Lake Falls, MN; son, John (Karen) Dyrseth, Modesto, CA; daughter-in-law, Dorothy Dyrseth, Sauk Centre, MN; 9 grandchildren, Mary Birchem, Leanne Joynes, Sonja Kruger, Sarah Kluempe, Cameron Dyrseth, Kristen Dyrseth, Steve Conely, Mike Conely and Robert Ulrich; 6 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy on April 30, 1992; son, Jerry Dyrseth; grandson, Craig Dyrseth; parents; foster parents; brothers, Olai, Clarence, Ingvald and Melvin; sisters, Dena and Myrtle and son-in-law, Donald Conely
