Carl Rodney Hallquist, 83, died Tuesday, December 27, 2005 at Northwest Medical Center, CNC, Thief River Falls, MN.


Carl Rodney Hallquist was born September 17, 1922 in Lancaster, MN, the son of Emil and Agnes (Blom) Hallquist. His family moved to Middle River, MN in 1923 and in 1940, he graduated from Middle River High School. Rodney attended Concordia College in the fall of 1940 and played football for the Cobbers .

On January 27, 1943, Rodney was united in marriage to Doris Irene Salte in Middle River. He entered the United States Army in 1943, when his daughter was just 10 days old. Rodney served in the Philippines and received his honorable discharge in February of 1945. The couple made their home in Middle River and he operated the Rex Caf from 1945-1969 with his wife and mother. In 1969, they moved to Thief River Falls, MN and Rodney began employment with Arctic Cat for 11 years. He then worked as a custodian for Pennington County Court House, Thief River Falls for 15 years, retiring in 1997. Since January of 2004, Rodney has resided at the CNC Unit of Northwest Medical Center, Thief River Falls.

Rodney was a former member of First Lutheran Church, Middle River, the Middle River American Legion, where he served as Commander and was a member of the Thief River Falls American Legion and VFW. He was inducted into the Middle River Sports Hall of Fame. He was an avid sportsman, loved Big Band music, cards and working in the yard. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren, great grandchildren and family.

Carl is survived by wife, Doris, Thief River Falls, MN; daughters, Connie (Jerry) Prickett, Thief River Falls, MN and Marlo Rae Strong, Apple Valley, MN; grandchildren, Tracy (Lon) Curtis, Tammy (Mark) Schuller, Christopher (Lorrie) Prickett, Todd (Darla) Prickett and Anthony (Carrie) Strong; 14 great grandchildren, Amy, Sarah, Ashley, Nicholas, Melissa, Jennifer, Annalie, Hayden, Steven, Ryan, Brandon, Jordan, Brea and Carli; 4 great great-grandchildren, Coral, Phoenix, Natalie and Larissa; brother, Roy (Betsy) Hallquist, West Linn, OR; brother-in-law, Maynard (Hazel) Salte, Longview, WA; sister-in-law, Loye Salte, Richmond, CA and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by parents and an infant brother.
