Obituary

Carl O. Larson, 96, died Thursday, February 11, at Oakland Park Communities, Thief River Falls, MN.

Funeral service will be 11 AM, Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at Salem Lutheran Church, rural Oklee, MN, with Reverend Bob Paulson officiating. Burial will be at Salem Cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church.

Carl O. Larson was born February 5, 1914 in Skanes, Sweden, the son of John and Mary (Johnson) Larson. Carl grew up and lived on the family farm, where his father homesteaded in 1896. Carl entered the United States Army on May 30, 1942. He took part in the Bismarck Archipelago Campaigne, a group of islands near New Guinea and Japan, where he served as a medic. Carl earned an American Theater Service Medal, an Asiatic Pacific Theatre Service Medal and a Philippine Liberation Ribbon. He was honorably discharged on November 25, 1945. Following his discharge, he returned to the family farm, where he farmed along with his brothers. They raised and showed prize winning Belgian horsed for many years. He was a life member of The Belgian Draft Horse Corp .

Carl was a life member of Salem Lutheran Church. Carl will be remembered for his garden and for giving away tons of produce to their neighbors and friends. Carl was a kind, gentle and caring man and was an incredible baker and cook.

Survived by cousins Inga Linder of Plummer and Gladys Magnell of South Dakota.
