Obituary

Carlyle Askeland, 91, died Sunday, May 23, 2004 at Northwest Medical Center, Thief River Falls, MN.

Carlyle Askeland was born July 30, 1912 in Benville Township, Beltrami County, MN, the son of Sivert and Martha (Olson) Askeland. He was baptized and confirmed at Valle Lutheran Church. He grew up and attended Dalos Country School.

On October 28, 1949, Carlyle was united in marriage to Grace Jelle at the Grygla Parsonage. Carlyle worked in Thompson, North Dakota when he was 14 and worked with his father during World War II while his brothers served in the military. He purchased a farm in 1944 east of Grygla and farmed until December of 2003, when he moved into Independence Hall in Grygla. He also worked a Land OLakes Turkey Plant in Thief River Falls from 1962 " 1972.

Carlyle was a member of Liberty Chapel at Grygla. He liked to farm, break horses and at times served as a country veterinarian. He spent time reading his Bible and especially loved spending time with family. He loved visiting people and was known by all and loved by many.

Survived by wife, Grace, Grygla, MN; children, Karen (Jerry) Anderson, Baudette, MN, Susan (Wade) Harbott, Newfolden, MN, Marilyn (Kelly) Mosbeck, Red Lake Falls, MN, Larry (Tamara) Askeland, Grygla, MN, Lynette (Ron) Carlson, Seattle, WA, Mark (Susan) Askeland, Euclid, MN and Debby (Mark) Loberg, Grygla, MN; grandchildren, Michael, Jason and Jamie Anderson, Corey (Stephanie) Harbott, Tiffany Harbott, Stephen (Tammy) Stavenes, Sarah (Eric) Stavenes, Emily Mosbeck, Michael and Malachi Askeland, Reidar and Roidan Carlson, Justin and Teddi-Ann Erickson, Shawna Askeland, Brittany and Tomas Loberg; great grandchildren, Cody, Kylie and Hunter Anderson, Audrey Harbott and Katelyn Stavenes; sister, Alvina (Alan) Tinsley, Yakima, WA; brothers, Alton (Ione), Loveland, CO and Selmer (Bernice), Simms, MT; sister-in-law, Tillie Askeland, Warroad, MN and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceded in death by parents, grandchild, Carly Askeland, great grandchild, Hunter Stavenes, sister, Myrtle Nelson and brothers, Orville, Norman and Sidney.
