Carol L. Johnson of Thief River Falls died on Tuesday, September 30 at home, with her family by her side after battling cancer for two and a half years. The funeral to celebrate the life of Carol Johnson will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 3, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Rev. John Voelker officiating. Burial will follow at 3:30 PM at the Audubon Cemetery, Audubon, MN. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Thursday, October 2, 2014 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church. Carol Louise (Wren) Johnson was born to William and Jenny (Hansen) Wren on July 22, 1933 in New Rockford, ND. She attended St. James Academy in New Rockford and as a young woman left for Fargo, ND, where she began her career working with customers, first as a waitress and later as a salesclerk. Carol married Ronald Johnson on January 21, 1955 in Fargo, ND. They had two children, Jenelle and Jeffrey. They lived in Lake Park, MN from 1956 until 1965. During that time, Carol worked as a salesclerk at Norby's in Detroit Lakes. In 1965, the family moved to Thief River Falls, where she worked for Elaines, Mr. Duane's, Bjorkman's and finally at Lori's Hallmark Store. Carol loved her customers, and was loved by them. She was a loyal worker, taking pride in the fact that at 79, she was still a "working girl". She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, and was a faithful attender and helper at various church events. Carol was a talented woman. She made beautiful clothing and later, became a gifted home decorator who sewed draperies, quilts, and pillows for herself and for others. She loved making pies and knew how to make a wonderful crust, and taught many of her friends and family her skill. Carol was a friend to many, and a special friend to others, who will remember her for her ability to listen, to give sound advice and making time for them. Carol is survived by her husband of 59 years, Ronald; her children, Jenelle (Jim) Peters of Little Falls, MN and Jeffrey (Barb) of St. Anthony Village, MN; 2 grandchildren, Kaia Flom (special friend, Todd) of Spring Valley, WI and Derek (Erin) Johnson of Duluth; 4 great-grandchildren with another due at Christmas. She is also survived by her sister, Janet (Louie) Guler and her brother, Edward Wren; and sister-in-law, Judy Thomas and brothers-in-law, Rodney and Bill Johnson She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Jenny Wren; brothers Jim, Bob and Tom Wren; her parents-in-law, Ed and Alice Johnson; and many other relatives and friends.
