Carol Klaven, 74, died on Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at her home in Thief River Falls, MN surrounded by her loving family under the care of hospice.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, November 2, 2009 at Faith Lutheran Brethren Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Pastor George Davis officiating. Burial will be at the Holt Cemetery, Holt, MN.

Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Sunday, November 1, 2009 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls with a 7:00 P.M. prayer service on Sunday evening. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.

Carol Leona Reierson was born on July 2, 1935 on the Reierson Family Farm near Holt, MN, in Excel Township, the daughter of Lawrence and Clara (Nelson) Reierson. Carol was baptized and confirmed at Nazareth Lutheran Church and attended elementary school in Holt, she graduated from Newfolden High School in 1953. Following high school, she was waitress at the Fountain Caf in Thief River Falls.

On July 3, 1954, Carol was united in marriage to Clayton Marvin Klaven in Thief River Falls, MN. To this union five children were born, Janice, Susan, Steven, Jeffrey and Dean. They lived on the Iron Range in Minnesota from 1954-1968. In 1969, they moved to Thief River Falls where they have continued to make their home. Clayton died December 6, 2006.

Carol worked at the Land-O-Lakes Turkey Plant for over 20 years, and then she worked at Northwestern Hospital in the laundry for over 20 years. Carol retired in 2006. She loved to play bingo, enjoyed cooking and baking, and made spectacular buns and chocolate chip cookies. Carol also enjoyed going to the casino, dancing, and in her younger years, Carol and Clayton loved to go fishing and camping. She especially loved to visit with family and friends and going to rummage sales, collecting Denim Days. She was an active member of Faith Lutheran Brethren Church.

Carol is survived by five children: Janice Johnson of Thief River Falls, MN, Sue (Jim) Williams of Warroad, MN, Steve (Rose) Klaven of Thief River Falls, MN, Jeff Klaven and Carol of Crookston, MN and Dean (Pam) Klaven of Thief River Falls, MN; 15 grandchildren: Chad, Johnny, Diane, Jimmy, Jackie, Josh, Justin, Travis, Brad, Jenny, Jason, Lance, Ashlee, Dani, and Jody; 22 great grandchildren: Mercedes, Ashley, Shania, Elizabeth, Cassandra, Bailey, Kali, Jessica, Jill, Levi, Chelsey, Jordan, Kyra, Racquel, Cheyenne, Devon, Brenden, Jaycee, Caleb, Lyla, Melody, and Paizleigh; mother, Clara Reierson of Holt, MN; brothers and sisters: LaVern (Mary) Reierson of Holt, MN, Yvonne Reierson of Thief River Falls, MN, Joel (Kryes) Reierson of Delta Junction, Alaska and Linda (Rodney) Taggart of Thief River Falls, MN; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton; her father, Lawrence; sister, Kathryn Rasmussen; grandparents, Knute and Karen Nelson and Ole and Allette Reierson.
