Caroline Emelie Halme, age 82, of Middle River, Minnesota, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, December 24, surrounded by her family. Memorial service will be held at First Lutheran Church, Middle River, MN Saturday January 3rd, 2026, at 5:00 PM with a visitation one hour prior to the service.
Carol was born on April 15, 1943, near Strathcona in their home, she was the daughter of Joe C. and Anna (Pesek) Biskup. She grew up in Middle River, was confirmed at First Lutheran Church, and attended Middle River School.
Carol married the love of her life, Frank “Billy” Halme, and together they built a life rooted in hard work, family, and community. In their early years, Carol worked side by side with Billy on their dairy farm and grain farming she loved combining and working up the fields. After the cows were sold, she began a 23‑year career at Arctic Cat in Thief River Falls. Later, she enjoyed part‑time work helping customers at JCP and spent six summers working at a local greenhouse—jobs she loved for the people she met and the joy they brought her.
Carol lived a life full of simple pleasures and meaningful connections. She and Billy cherished evenings spent playing cards with friends, whether at home or in the “shed” out in the woods. She loved traveling, with memorable trips to Finland and Hawaii, and treasured family fishing and camping adventures. Her flower beds were her pride, and each spring she looked forward to flower‑buying trips with her dear friend Lorrie Rose. When winter arrived, she turned to painting, sewing, and crafting, and she especially enjoyed relaxing with word games on her computer.
Faith and fellowship were central to Carol’s life. She taught Sunday School, participated in WELCA, and was active in the church quilting group. In recent years, she found joy and companionship as a member of the Homemakers Club and the Holt Keenagers, where she made many special friends who filled her days with laughter and warmth.
Carol is survived by her daughter Karleen (David) Thompson of Middle River; her son Kevin (Beth) Halme of Middle River; grandchildren Max (Vanessa) Thompson of Thief River Falls, Jake (Justine Teie) Thompson of Middle River, Carli (Tucker) Nelson of East Grand Forks, and Seri and Brynn Halme of Middle River; great‑grandchildren Rowen, Brooks, and Tate Thompson of Thief River Falls, and Maddox Nelson of East Grand Forks; and her brother Leslie (Sue) Biskup.
Special to her heart were “grandchildren” Derek Bruggeman, Camille Ingle, and Missy Bruggeman; “great‑grandchild” Makenna Teie; former exchange student Virpi Halme of Finland; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Billy, her brothers Joe and Fred Biskup, her parents Joe and Anna Biskup, and several aunts, uncles, and friends.
Caroline will be remembered for her kindness, her creativity, her love of family, and the joy she brought to those around her. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched.
