Carrie Birkeland, 94, of Oklee, MN died on January 28, 2000 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls, MN. Arrangements with the Petterson Funeral Home in Oklee, MN.

Funeral services will be held on Friday February 11, 2000 at 2:00 PM in Zion Lutheran Church in Oklee, MN with Reverend Robert Paulson Officiating. Burial will be held in the Valle Cemetery near Oklee, MN.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Friday only.

Carrie Birkeland was born Dec. 8, 1905 in Equality Township, Red Lake County, MN daughter of the late Ole and Margit (Knuteson) Torkelson. She was raised and attended rural school in this area. In 1933 Carrie was united in marriage to Steen Birkeland. The couple ran the Birkeland farm supply for many years in Oklee. Steen passed away in 1976.

Carrie is survived by her sister Margaret Linder of Clearbrook, MN; Sisters-in-law Bernice Torkelson of Oklee, MN and Mabel Torkelson of Plummer, MN; granddaughter Barbara (Len) Johnstone of Toronto, Ontario, Canada; great-grandchildren Mark and Carrie of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, granddaughter Joann (Reider) Notsund of Salem, OR, great-granddaughter Karen (Scott) Couchois, great-great-granddaughters Camille and Margit of Piedmont, CA: also many nieces and nephews.
