Catherine Simon Noper, 90, died on Saturday, March 25, 2006 at the Valley Eldercare in Grand Forks, ND, where she had lived since January 2001.
Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, March 30, 2006 at the Methodist Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Rev. Phil Schmidt officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls, MN.
Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Catherine Louise Vandenberg was born on January 22, 1916, the daughter of Jacobus and Anna Severina (Johnson) Vandenberg on Park Point in Duluth, MN. She graduated from Central High School in Duluth in 1934 and she married Melville Simon on June 21, 1934. They moved to Thief River Falls in 1940 where she was a mother and homemaker while Mel worked for L.B. Hartz Wholesale.
Catherine had a variety of interests such as knitting, painting, gardening, writing, reading, sewing, card playing, choir, swimming, exercise groups, bread baking, girl scouts, camping, and square dancing. She participated in community life, took an active part in the United Methodist Church.
In 1955 she worked in the office at JC Penney Company and later in the Thief River Falls, MN City Clerks office. Melville Simon died on August 31, 1979. Catherine became a snow-bird, spending summers in Minnesota and winters in Florida, again taking an active part in church and community.
On May 19, 1990 she married Randall Noper. They made their home in Holiday, FL and in Thief River Falls, MN. They enjoyed traveling and visiting their children and grandchildren. Randall Noper died on October 1, 2000.
Survivors include a son, Lyle (Mary) Simon of St. Louis Park, MN; daughters Phyllis (Jerald) Quam, East Grand Forks, MN; and Catherine (Charles) Anderson, Watertown, MN; step daughters, Jay Trentzsch, Central Point, OR; and Karen (Paul) Trentzsch of Canon City, CO; six grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, and six great grandchildren; sisters Naomi Mongeau, New Port Richey, FL; Joanne Yeager, Orlando, FL; and a brother Robert Vandenberg, Adrian, MI; many nieces, nephews, and in-laws; special friends Albert and Janet Hoff of Rosemount, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents and husbands.
