Cecile Surprenant of Grand Forks, ND, formerly Red Lake Falls, MN, 85, died Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at Valley Eldercare Center, Grand Forks, ND. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls, MN with Father Bill DeCrans presiding. Burial will be at St. Anthony Cemetery in Terrebonne, MN. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Monday, July 6, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Cecile Theresa Fournier was born on April 5, 1930 on the family farm in Terrebonne Township the daughter of Xavier and Marie (Derosier) Fournier. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Terrebonne, MN. She attended rural country school and Lafayette High School in Red Lake Falls, MN. Cecile worked on the farm and various retail jobs in Terrebonne and Crookston. On October 21, 1952, Cecile was united in marriage to Vern Surprenant at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Terrebonne, MN. The couple made their home in Washington DC for two years while Vern served in the United States Army and then returned to the Surprenant family farm near Terrebonne. To this union seven children were born, Emily, Allen, Dale, Laurie, Joan, Janet and Randy. Cecile enjoyed raising her children and worked alongside of her husband, Vern on the dairy farm. She raised a large garden and filled her pantry with her canned produce. Cecile loved cooking and baking, especially her butter horn rolls and brownies. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and to her faith. She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church until its closing, and then became a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls. Cecile was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Red Hat Society. Survivors include her children, Emily Surprenant of Grand Forks, ND, Allen Surprenant of Fargo, ND, Dale (Diane) Surprenant of Moorhead, MN, Laurie (fiance, Dennis Duray) Surprenant of Grand Forks, ND, Joan Skiple of Bismarck, ND, Janet (Darrell) Wiskow of Red Lake Falls, MN, and Randy Surprenant of Fargo, ND; grandchildren, Kayla (James) Walter, Christopher Surprenant, Kate (Jay) Puterbaugh, Matthew (Amy) Surprenant, Nicole (Zach) Jones, Britnee Surprenant, Travis Skiple, Jennifer (Patrick) Niemackl, Sarah (Nick) Brilz, Melissa (Justin) Nagel, Brandon Wiskow, Mikayla Wiskow, Grace Surprenant, Joshua Surprenant; great-grandchildren, Jayden and Allison Walter, Brody Puterbaugh, Emma and Avery Niemackl, Braden Nagel; sister, LaVonne Pearson of Naperville, IL; brothers-in-law, John "Bud" (Bernie) Surprenant of AZ and Tim Baril of WI; sister-in-law, Margaret Fournier of Grand Forks, ND; and many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Vern in 2013; parents; siblings, Anne (Leonard) Roy, Rheaume Fournier, Obeline (William) Jolly, Lily (Gale) Lerum, Norman Fournier, Thomas Fournier, Louis Fournier, Richard (Marge) Fournier, Cleone (Ben) Barnes, Earl Fournier, Sam Fournier, and infant siblings, Marie and Robert; and brother-in-law, Robert Pearson.
