Obituary

Charles Josephson, 93, of Thief River Falls, MN died on Saturday, October 30, 2010 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND.

Funeral services will 10:30, Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Rev. John Voelker PhD officiating. Burial will in Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls, MN. Military Honors will be provided the Thief River Falls American Legion and VFW.

Visitation will be 5-8, Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM. There will be a Masonic Service at 6:30 PM. Visitation will also be for one hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Wednesday.

Charles Bernard was born on August 10, 1917 in Austin, MN, the oldest son of Alfred S. and Sadie (Roberts) Josephson. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. He moved to Goodridge, MN as a young boy with his family. During high school, Charles worked as a farm hand on Saturdays and during the summer. During the summer of 1934, Charles worked at a filling station and garage from 8 AM to 9 PM for $15 a month. He attended school and graduated from Goodridge High School in 1935. After finishing school, Charles began working at the Creamery.

He was united in marriage to Ethel Christine Rambeck on March 20, 1941. They made their home in Goodridge, MN. Charles served his country in the US Army and was wounded during the war in 1944. He returned home to his wife in Goodridge, MN and started a family. He worked at the Goodridge Creamery and Gas Station. They moved to Middle River in 1950 and he started working at the Middle River Newspaper until 1960.

Charles began working at the Employment Service (Workforce Center) in Crookston from 1960 and in 1962 was transferred to the office in Thief River Falls, MN until 1981. He then retired.

Charles enjoyed fishing. For many years, he and his wife Ethel traveled extensively in the United States, made three trips to visit relatives in Norway, and took two trips to France to visit the battle sites. For the last few years, he has enjoyed gardening on his acreage west of Thief River Falls. He found it important to help out his neighbors with lawn mowing and snow blowing. He kept active with Meals on Wheels and hauling friends to doctors appointments. He was a member of Masons, Golden Pioneers, American Legion, and Trinity Lutheran Church.

Charles is survived by his wife Ethel, Thief River Falls, MN; 2 sons: Mark (Judy) Josephson, Thief River Falls, MN, Neil (Barbara) Josephson, Barnesville, MN, 4 grandchildren: Julie (Eugene) Cole, Bagley, MN, Ryan Josephson, Madison, WI, Johnny (Lisa) Josephson, Lonsdale, MN, Robert (Rachael) Josephson, Ramsey, MN, 7 great grandchildren: Natalie and Hailey Berg, Jonathan Cole, Madison, Noah Josephson, Noelle and Emily Josephson, 2 sisters in law, Doris Walimaa, Stillwater, MN, Diana Josephson, Thief River Falls, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers Darel, Dan, and Lynn.
