Charles "Charlie" Meyers, 89, Thief River Falls, MN died Monday, February 19, 2018 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND with his loving daughter and close family friends at his side.
Charlie's funeral will be 2:00 PM on Sunday, February 25, 2018 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN with Larry Myhrer officiating. Burial will follow at Landstad Cemetery, Sanders Township, Pennington County, MN. Visitation will be from 12:30 PM until 2:00 PM on Sunday at the funeral home and a time of lunch and fellowship will follow the service.
Charles John Herbert Meyers was born October 9, 1928 in Minneapolis, MN the son of Julia Trochmann Hoffe. As a young child, he went to live with his grandparents Victor and Anna Trochmann. He attended Sunnyside Country School in Agder Township, Marshall County, MN. Charlie helped on the family farm until entering into service with the United States Army in 1951. He was stationed in Seattle, WA and was Honorably Discharged in 1953.
After returning to Thief River Falls, Charlie worked as a farm laborer, brick layer and also worked in the honey business. He worked the night shift at Bridgeman Creamery for over 30 years and after his retirement spent the next 19 years at John Deere. Charlie was very well respected by his co-workers.
On August 5, 1961, Charles was united in marriage to JoAnn Sevre at First Baptist Church in Thief River Falls, MN. To this union 2 children were born, Jeffrey and Paula. Charlie and JoAnn spent their entire lives on Markley Avenue in Thief River Falls, MN. Charlie was very supportive of his family and loved them dearly.
Charlie was baptized at First Baptist Church in Thief River Falls. He was active in all areas of the church and loved the Lord and his church. Charlie was a member of the Ecklund-Holmstrom American Legion Post 117 and proudly served many years with the Honor Guard.
Charlie was a humble, out-going, friendly man who enjoyed traveling, meeting people, and having coffee with his friends and relatives. He had a great memory and could tell stories about experiences from way back.
Survivors include his loving daughter Paula (partner Rosalind Lewis) Meyers, Riverside, CA, 2 grandchildren, James and Alyssa Lewis-Meyers; siblings, Arne Hoffe, Andy (Juanita) Hoffe, Shirley (Roger) Hanson, Joyce (Larry "Bud") Nornes, Jimmy (Linda) Hoffe, Jane (Steve) Hamre; several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by wife JoAnn on February 23, 2009; son Jeffrey on April 10, 2017; mother; grandparents; and brother Bobby.
