Charles Thorn passed away on Sunday, November 8, 2020, at the Thief River Care Center in Thief River Falls, MN.

Memorial service with Military Honors will be held on Sunday, November 15, 2020, at 2:00 PM at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls with Reverend Justin Dietel officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Masks are required and practice social distancing.

Charles Wesley Thorn was born August 2, 1940, in Palestine, WV, son of Claud and Thelma (Parsons) Thorn. He was raised there and attended Elizabeth High School until graduating in 1958. On July 14, 1959, he entered the US Airforce and served his country in the Vietnam War until his honorable discharge on September 30, 1982.

On December 5th, 1977, he was united in marriage to Crestita Andales Baclayon at the First Baptist Church in Balibago, Angeles City, Philippines.  From this union four children were born: Aaron, Lance, Jonathan, and Thelma. The couple made their home at the Grand Forks Air Force Base in Grand Forks, ND. Following his discharge Charles worked for Simplot in Grand Forks until his retirement. In 2013 Charles moved to Thief River Falls to be closer to his son Jon.

Charles enjoyed reading, classic country music, and animals. Throughout his younger years he worked on cars and home renovations. He was a quiet man who enjoyed spending time with his family.

Charles is survived by his children Aaron Thorn of Arvilla, ND, Lance (Eric Bergeson) Thorn of Tucson, AZ, Jonathan (Brittany) Thorn of Thief River Falls, MN, and Thelma (Chad) Myhre of Allison Park, PA; grandchildren Sakura and Milo; siblings Roger (Nancy) Thorn, Mary (John) Thatcher, Ronald (Wilka) Thorn, Claud "Jr" (Mary) Thorn, and Pauline Lockhart, along with several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; mother of his children Crestita; and siblings Cloyd Thorn, Carl Thorn, Ruth Moyer, Robert "Bill" Thorn, George Thorn, Floyd Thorn, and Paul Thorn.
