Obituary

The Lord called Charlotte (Polson) Skjerven ("Pollie") home on Friday, October 28, 2017 at the Thief River Care Center with her loving family at her side.

A Celebration of Pollie's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plummer, MN with Rev. Jonathan Dodson officiating.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at church.  Burial will follow at Emardville Cemetery, rural Plummer, MN.

Pollie was born on April 16, 1937 to Walter and Hannah (Huggett) Polson and she was raised near and in Plummer, MN.  Pollie graduated from Pershing High School in 1955 and married Roger Skjerven on November 4, 1956.  The couple lived in Plummer and raised three wonderful children, Peggy (Kermit) Genereux, Lorie (Andrew) Gildea and Jim (Jenifer) Skjerven.

Pollie was a devoted wife and mother and committed to her family, her faith and her flag.  Her first priority was always her family and she was a fierce advocate for them.  Pollie was very proud of all her family's accomplishments and enjoyed attending all of their events.  She loved to sew, garden, decorate cakes and hunt for, find and refinish antiques.  Before her retirement, Pollie worked for more than two decades as a bookkeeper at Pamida in Thief River Falls.

She was active in her church, Immanuel Lutheran, her entire life, participating in Ladies Aid, Circle, Bible Study and quilting groups and taught Sunday School.

Pollie was also very involved in making her community better.  She was the first woman to serve on the Plummer School Board, was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary, serving as its President, and a leader in the Red Lake County Republican Party.

Pollie is preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Hannah and her grandmother, Annie Westlake Huggett.  She is survived by Roger, her loving husband of 61 years, her three children, two delightful grandchildren, Kyla (Benjamin) Bays and Lucas Genereux and two endearing great-grandchildren, Aaron Bays and Emma Jo Bays.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be sent to Immanuel Lutheran Church, the Thief River Care Center or Hospice of the Red River Valley.
