Charlotte Chuckie Wilcox, 94, died Thursday, December 6, 2007 at Hillcrest Nursing Home, Red Lake Falls, MN.
Funeral service will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, December 10, 2007 at First Presbyterian Church, Red Lake Falls, MN with Pastor Tom Potter officiating. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery, Red Lake Falls, MN.
Visitation will be from 5-8 P.M. Sunday, December 9, 2007 at Johnson Funeral Service in Red Lake Falls with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM on Sunday. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the funeral service on Monday.
Charlotte Harris was born at Oklee, Minnesota to Arther and Emma (Aakre) Harris on February 14, 1913. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church of Oklee by Reverend J.K. Lerohl.
Charlotte graduated from the Oklee High School. Later, she worked at the Oklee Hotel which is now known as the Coya Knutson Hotel. She also worked at the Pollards Caf in Oklee. In 1937, Chuckie moved to Red Lake Falls with her family. She attended post-graduate course in Business Administration at the Lafayette High School in Red lake Falls. She worked at the Lincoln Hotel in Red Lake Falls and Lanes Drug for five years. Chuckie also worked at Manhattan Beach Lodge in Brainerd for a summer.
On November 20, 1941, Chuckie was united in marriage to William Roy Wilcox at First Presbyterian Church, Red Lake Falls, MN with Reverend Henry Lindholm officiating. The couple continued to own and operate the ice cream store. They also operated a gas station and ice cream store which evolved in the early 1960s into Wilcox Furniture, Appliance and Plumbing.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, choir, a deacon, First Presbyterian Women's Group, an elder, and a Sunday School teacher. For three years, Chuckie and Roy moved to Missouri during the war while Roy was in the service.
In 1987, Chuckie and Roy were honored as Couple of the Year by the Civic and Commerce of Red Lake Falls. In 1991, Chuckie and Roy celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary.
Chuckie was secretary and treasurer for forty-five years at the Wilcox Furniture Store until she and her husband retired in 1981. She was also a member of the Legion Auxiliary and Hillcrest Nursing Home Auxiliary.
Chuckie and Roy spent 28 winters in Palm Springs and 15 years in Mesa, AZ.
She is preceded in death by her husband Roy Wilcox; sister Ruth Solheim; niece Mary Mittelstadt; and father-in-law Stewart (Gladys) Wilcox.
Charlotte is survived by nieces and nephews: John (Ardith) Solheim of Red lake Falls, Sharon Vatthauer of Thief River Falls, Cheryl Cardella of Phoenix, AZ, Dave Miller of Fargo, ND, Charles (Becky) Wilcox of Ramsey, MN, Nancy Jo. Wilcox of Wauneke, WI; sister-in-law, Jeanette Wilcox of Moorhead, MN; great-nephews, Jason Solheim of Moorhead, MN, Craig (Linda) Lia of Stillwater, MN, Drew (Sandy) Cardella of CA, and Brandon (Marlo) Cardella of California, Kyle Wilcox of Moorhead, MN; great-nieces, Julie Solhiem of grand Forks, ND, Jolene (Nathan) Schue of Moorhead, MN, Stephanie (Jay) Adams of Stillwater, MN, April Cardella of Mesa, AZ, Andrea (Kyle) Hams of Mora, MN; and three great-great nieces and two great nephews.
