Obituary

Cheryl Kostrzewski of Rosewood, MN, passed away Friday, February 16, 2018 at her residence, at the age of 69.

Cheryl's funeral service will be held Friday, February 23rd at 2:00 PM at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN, with Rev. Ale Tulu and Rev. John Golv officiating. Interment will be held at a later date at the Viking Cemetery in Viking, MN.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM with a 7:00 PM Prayer Service on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls, MN.  Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.

Cheryl Elaine Kvamme was born on November 23, 1948 in Grand Forks, ND, the daughter of Roy and Hilma (Hanson) Kvamme.  She was baptized in the Lutheran faith on December 12, 1948.  Cheryl attended grade school in Grand Forks and high school at Marshall County Central in Newfolden, MN, graduating in 1966.  Following high school she attended the AVTI in Thief River Falls for a general secretarial degree and later attended Northland Community College for a legal secretary degree.

On July 13, 1968 Cheryl was united in marriage to Richard Kostrzewski at Zion Lutheran Church in Viking, MN.  Together they resided in rural Thief River Falls and in the spring of 1989 they moved to Rosewood where they currently reside.  To this union four children were born:  Tamara, Romayne, Erica, and Carl.

Cheryl worked a variety of jobs over the years with most recently being Digi-Key where she retired in September 2012.  She was currently working at the Seven Clans Casino's Café.

Cheryl's favorite pastimes were crocheting, knitting, cross-stitch/plastic canvas, playing games on the computer, watching TV – especially westerns and sci-fi, collecting Betty Boop memorabilia, spending time with family, and most importantly the grandkids and great-grandkids.

She was a breast cancer survivor and took pride in her craft of needlework, making crosses for current breast cancer patients that she met throughout her treatments.

Cheryl is survived by her husband, Richard of Rosewood, MN; children, Tamara (LeRoy) Mattern of Willow City, ND, Romayne (Michael) Wilson, Erica (Dale) Opdahl, and Carl (Taryn) Kostrzewski all of Thief River Falls, MN; grandchildren, Tyler, Jesse and Aleah Mattern, Kristin, Mercedes, Zachary, and Claire Wilson, Nicholas, Austin, and Matthew Opdahl, Jordan and Ryleigh Kostrzewski, and Kyler and Keaton Hoverson; great-grandchildren, Richard Jenkins, Thomas Opdahl, Addalynn Reierson, Everleigh Opdahl, Tobias Kuznia; her fur babies, Sadie, Maggie, and Kiki; siblings, Rosalyn Sourdif of Thief River Falls, MN, Roylene (Galen Halverson) Petersen of Trail, MN, Randy (Karen) Kvamme of Audobon, MN, and Ronald Kvamme of Minneapolis, MN; several nieces, nephews, in-laws, relatives, and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; son-in-law, Wesley Srnsky and granddaughter, Elizabeth "CJ" Srnsky; brothers-in-law, Steve Petersen and Gordon "Skip" Sourdif; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Steve and Alice Kostrzewski; brother-in-law, Daniel Kostrzewski.
