Chester Brown, 76, of Red Lake Falls, MN died on Sunday, October 01, 2000 at Dakota Heartland Hospital in Fargo, ND. Arrangements with Johnson Funeral Service in Red Lake Falls, MN.
Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, October 5, 2000 at 2:00 PM at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls, MN with Father Tim Bushy Officiating. Burial will be held at the St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery on Friday, October 6, at 1:00 PM in Madison, SD with Father Robert Vinslauski.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, from 5 " 8 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service at Johnson Funeral Service in Red Lake Falls and one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.
Chester F. Brown was born November 1, 1923 son of Charles and Theresa (Costello) Brown in Duluth, MN. He graduated from high School in Duluth and entered the US Army. He spent four years serving during W.W.II. Following his honorable discharge Chet returned to Duluth where he married Betty Spangers in 1948. They lived in Wisconsin, Iowa and South Dakota where he was a printer. He worked in Madison, SD at the Madison Daily Leader for 25 years. Betty passed away in June of 1980 in Madison, SD. Chet retired from the newspaper and later moved to Red Lake Falls, MN. On June 9, 1990 he was united in marriage to Lorraine Schmidt. The couple has resided in Red Lake Falls since.
Chet enjoyed life to the fullest and made everyone who knew him laugh and enjoy life too. He loved his family and friends and was happiest at the golf course. Chet had a great sense of humor, liked politics and crossword puzzles and sports like football. He enjoyed the company of his dog boots. He was a member of the American Legion Post of Red Lake Falls, MN, the VFW of Thief River Falls and the Oak Knolls Golf Club.
Chet is survived by his wife Lorraine of Red Lake Falls, MN, daughter Beth (Keith) Erickson and three grandsons Matt, Casey and Jamie all of Albert Lea, MN. Step children Peggy (Brian) Hoosier of Red Lake Falls, MN; Dean (Deanne) Schmidt of Crookston, MN; Tim (Nancy) Schmidt of Fargo, ND and Dan Schmidt of Oak Dale, CA: seven step grandchildren. One brother Charles Brown of West Bend, WI and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Betty, two infant children, one step grandson Nathan and his brother William Brown.
