Chester Solberg Goodridge, MN, age 92, passed away on Friday, September 19, 2014 at the Freedom Living Center in Oklee, MN. The service to celebrate the life of Chester Solberg will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at Ekelund Lutheran Church near Goodridge, MN with Reverend Robert Dahlen Officiating. Burial will be held at Ekelund Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday, September 22, 2014 from 4 - 7 PM at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN and also one hour prior to service at the church on Tuesday. Chester Raymond Solberg was born September 10, 1922 at home in Star Township son of Hans and Lena (Rustad) Solberg. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. He was a longtime active member of the Eklund Lutheran Church rural Goodridge, MN. He attended a rural school (Hazelwood Dist. 59) which was about a mile and a half south of his home through the 8th grade. He stayed home one year and then attended Goodridge High School. He walked one mile to meet the bus and had a long bus route to school on poorly maintained roads. While he was in High School he was on the basketball team. He graduated as Salutatorian of his class in 1942. He remained on the family farm which was the homestead with his father, while his brother Harry was drafted into the Army to serve his country during WWII. He farmed all his life. On July 1, 1950 Chester was united in marriage to Ordell (Stenvik) at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN. They made their home on the family farm. He began selling insurance in 1962. His dad was selling Bray Mutual Insurance and Chester took over his agency when his dad passed away. He was also on the board of directors of the company. He retired in 2013. He sold the family farm to his son Bruce and wife Diane in 1989, and Chester and Ordell made their home ½ mile away. He and Bruce continued farming together. He loved farming and serving his policyholders. He had many interests, traveling and enjoying the sunshine in Arizona in the winter for many years, keeping with current news, visits from family, friends and his wonderful neighbors. In his younger years he enjoyed fishing at Washkish and hunting deer. He is survived by his loving family, wife Ordell of 64 years; sons Bruce (Diane) of Goodridge, MN their children Joyce (Greg), Kristian (Kassie); Brian (Argenis) of Thief River Falls, MN their children Jared, Erika, Christian and Valentina; Paul (Sue) of Minot, ND their children Emilie (Jason), Holly, Katie (Nick), Nicholas and Joseph: and great-grandchildren Isaac, Raymond, Gunnar, Chase and Brooklyn: two nephews Larry and Roger Solberg along with several cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, son David (February 3, 1979) daughter-in-law, Monna Solberg, brother Harry and sister-in-law, Edythe Solberg.
