Christine Stensrud of Karlstad, MN, age 57, passed away Tuesday December 1, 2015 at Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center, Hallock, MN with her loving husband at her side.   Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN with Rev. Leo Deitemeyer officiating.   Christine Ann Johnson was born September 7, 1958 in Thief River Falls, MN to Ole and Gladys (Foster) Johnson.  At the age of 3 weeks she had surgery on her neck for Spina Bifida at the hospital in Fargo, ND.  She graduated from Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls in 1977 and after graduation she worked as nurse's aide at Oakland Park Nursing Home in Thief River Falls.   She was married to Les Stensrud at St. John Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls on September 22, 1979.  They had two children, Shanda Johnson and Chaz Stensrud.  After moving to the Twin Cities in 1981, Chris was a nurse's aide in New Hope, MN.  She then went to work at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park as office manager in the cancer research department.  Chris later attended North Hennepin Community College in Brooklyn Park, MN to learn additional job skills.   At the age of 40, her old surgery scars began giving her a lot of pain and the surgery to correct that left her physically impaired. As time went on this became worse until she had to quit work and the couple moved to Karlstad, MN where they lived at the time of her passing.   Christine enjoyed craftwork, especially creating cards; she also enjoyed reading, keeping in contact with her friends, and spending time with her family.  Chris and Les also enjoyed an anniversary trip to Sedona, AZ where they got to go on a hot air balloon ride and see many of the beautiful sights.  Christine was a happy, positive, upbeat person.   She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Les of Karlstad, MN; children, Shanda (Jeremy) Coons and Chaz Stensrud; grandchildren, Skyler Koop and Darrian Coons; brothers, Michael (Leone) Johnson, Bruce (Marian) Johnson; sister, Holly (Leonard) Hoy; also, her in-laws, Cyril and Lois Stensrud, Kathryn (Richard) Grandbois, Clint (Adele) Stensrud, Dan (Ginny) Stensrud; and numerous nieces,  nephews and friends.   She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; and God-mother, Millie Thorstad.
