Clarice Ranum, 85, died Thursday, August 24, 2006 at her home in Viking, MN.
Funeral service will be Tuesday, August 29, 2006 ~ 2:00 PM at Viking Covenant Church, Viking, MN with Pastor Jim Robberstad, officiating. Burial will be in the Holt Cemetery, Holt, MN.
Visitation will be on Monday, 5:00 " 8:00 PM with a prayer service held at 7:00 PM at Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls and on Tuesday one hour prior to the service in the church.
Clarice Rose Sagstuen was born June 9, 1921 at Mud Lake, MN, the daughter of Carsten and Clara (Johnson) Sagstuen. She attended Grade School at the Pionner Country School north of Holt, MN. Later she worked for neighbors helping with household and farm chores.
Clarice was united in marriage to Sidney Kenneth Ranum in September of 1942. The couple lived in the Viking area after their marriage and raised part of the family there. In 1951 Sidney, Clarice and family moved to California, where the remainder of the family was born, totaling five sons and three daughters. Sidney and Clarice moved back to Viking in 1989, where they have since resided.
Clarice enjoyed crocheting and traveling in their motor home with Sidney. She always kept a journal documenting their travels. While traveling, the couple spent their winters in Lake Havasu, AZ.
Clarice was a member of the Elks Lodge and was also a Girl Scout Leader.
Clarice is survived by her husband, Sidney of Viking, MN; sons: Lowell (Dani) Ranum of Bemidji, MN, Jerry (Evie) Ranum of Georgetown, TX, Curtis (Pauline) Ranum of Helena, GA, and Kenneth (Julie) Ranum of Seattle, WA; daughters: Karen (Bud) Robinson of Hackette, AR, Barbara (Jim) Holland of Bakersfield, CA, and Lorie (Tony) Ped of Williamsburg, VA; two sisters: Fern Goettsch of Torrance, CA and Evie Beito of Middle River, MN; seventeen grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Charles Glenn Ranum; and one brother, Ernest Andrew Sagstuen.
