Clayton LaVern Hanson was born April 10, 1932, on the family farm near Thief River Falls, MN, the son of Odin and Manda (Klemmetson) Hanson. He was baptized and confirmed at Silverton Lutheran Church, rural Thief River Falls, MN.  He attended Silverton School Dist #42 and Reed School Dist #29. He then attended Lincoln High School.

Clayton enlisted in the United States Army and served as a cook from 1958-1960. He then returned home and farmed the family farm the rest of his life, raising registered Shorthorn cattle and small grains with his dad. Clayton had been a member of Silverton Lutheran Church, the Eagles, and served on the ASCS board for Silverton Township. He enjoyed playing ice hockey and watching community sporting events. He will be remembered for the pride he took in his cattle; his care for all animals, including barn kittens; and his fondness for John Deere tractors and implements. Clayton was a true conversationalist and always had time for a cup of coffee with his neighbors. His quick wit kept visits lively and brightened the faces of those in his presence.

Survivors include eight nieces and nephews: Brenda Walberg, Kathy (Jerry) Narlock, Darrel (Robyn) Muzzy, Mitch (Joanie) Muzzy, Laureen (Mark) Johnson, Susanne (Jody) Hinrichs, Paul (Heather) Johnson, and Jana Johnson, as well as 15 great nieces and nephews; and a great-great niece and nephew;  and special neighbors and friends.

Preceding Clayton in death were his parents, sisters and brothers-in-law, Lester & Violet Muzzy, Curtis W. & Marlene Johnson and nephew-in-law, LeRoy Walberg.

Clayton Hanson passed away peacefully on Monday, July 8, 2019, at Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine, MN, at the age of 87 years. May his memory be blessed.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 13th at Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls, MN with Pastor Timothy Lundeen officiating. Lunch follow in the funeral home dining area. Burial will be at Telemarken Cemetery, rural Goodridge, MN. Visitation will be prior to the service from 9 to 10 a.m .
