Clayton Restad, 79, died on Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at Meritcare Hospital, Northwest Campus, Thief River Falls, MN.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 13, 2010 at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Rev. Ale Tulu officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Ecklund-Holmstrom Post #117 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2793.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Friday, February 12, 2010 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM on Saturday at the church.
Clayton Merle Restad was born November 1, 1930 in Ada, MN the son of Clarence and Margaret (Monson) Restad. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith at Audubon, MN. Clayton attended school in Audubon and graduated High School in 1948. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Moorhead State and Masters Degree in Education from University of North Dakota.
Clayton served in the United States Army from 1952 until 1954 during the Korean Conflict.
On July 28, 1951 Clayton was united in marriage to Barbara Ann Lehne at Audubon, MN. They made their home in Moorhead, MN before Clayton entered into service with the United States Army. At this time Clayton worked for International Harvester and Ed Schom Pontiac in Fargo, ND. In 1957 the couple moved to Thief River Falls. Clayton worked for the next 30 years at Thief River Falls School District #564 where he taught algebra, math and drivers education.
Clayton enjoyed golfing, hunting, baking, traveling, spending time with family and having coffee with his buddies at Dees Kitchen.
He is a member of Zion Lutheran Church, was American Legion Post Commander in 1976, served on the Thief River Falls City Council for 10 years; was a member of the Elks Lodge, Golden Pioneers and Thief River Falls Golf Club.
Clayton is survived by two children, Bruce (special friend Kay Doman) Restad of Auburn, WA and Cindy Jo (Mike) Byron of Grand Forks, ND; two grandchildren, Adam Byron and McKenzie Ann Byron both of Grand Forks, ND; brothers, Wesley (Jo) Restad of Eau Claire, WI, Arlen (Arlene) Restad of Eagan, MN and Lynn (Elaine) Restad of Coraopolis, PA; and several nieces, nephews and friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara on January 17, 2009; parents; and his brother, David.
