Conrad Skyberg, 82, died Monday, March 9, 2009 at his home in Holt, MN.
Conrad Manfred Skyberg was born March 2, 1927 at Hillsboro, ND, the son of Clarence T. and Myrtle Josephine (Bakken) Skyberg. He attended school in North Dakota until the 4th grade and then attended school in Greenbush, MN for one year. His last 3 years of schooling were spent at June Berry Township School. Conrad served his country in the United States Army from July 27, 1954 " June 22, 1956. His tour of duty was served in France.
While stationed in France, Conrad sent an engagement ring in the mail to Arlane Lee, Alexandria, MN and so the couple was married in September of 1956. He hired out to Gilbert Trontvet, doing farm work. They then moved to Alexandria for 3 ½ years and then bought a farm east of Grygla, MN, where he farmed from 1961 until selling the farm in 1979. He worked as a carpenter foreman for Arctic Cat for 6 years. He then moved to Newfolden, MN in 1979 and bought 40 acres near Holt, MN in the spring of 1980.
Conrad held membership with the American Legion, Middle River, MN, the Eagles, Thief River Falls, MN and was a life member of the Thief River Falls VFW. He enjoyed carpentry and remodeling which he did mostly around Thief River Falls. Conrad loved his dog Lucky and would seldom be found with out her. He also enjoyed riding his four-wheeler around on the farm. Conrad was very involved in the Meals on Wheels program for the Holt, MN area since 2001. Conrad was known by many as Dad or Grandpa and always enjoyed visiting with everyone.
He is survived by children: Pamela (Bill) Digby, Seagoville, TX, Debra Skyberg, Fond Du Lac, WI, Elizabeth Betty (Cole) Keeler, Warroad, MN, Donna Doon (Gordon) Kaasa, Puposky, MN and James (Kris) Skyberg, Manitowoc, WI; daughter in law, Doris Skyberg, San Antonio, TX, 16 grandchildren; 9 great grand children; brother: Donald Skyberg, Moorhead, MN; sisters: Adeline (Floyd) Nelson, Newfolden, MN, Elaine (Curtis) Thompson, Newfolden, MN, Shirley (Robert) Olson, Middle River, MN and Rose (Marvin) Nelson, Thief River Falls, MN.
Conrad is preceded in death by parents, son Marlow Skyberg, sisters: Evelyn Johnson, Clarice Trontvet brother Harvey Skyberg; and a sister and brother in infancy.
