Corlan Ann Sorenson was born September 23, 1937 in Thief River Falls, MN the daughter of Harry and Agnes (Anderson) Sorenson. She was baptized and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church near Oklee, MN. She attended country school in Garnes Township, Red Lake County, MN and graduated from Plummer High School with the class of 1955. In the fall of 1955 and spring of 1956 she attended Teachers Training classes in Thief River Falls, graduating in May of 1956. After completion, her first teaching job was at a country school by Goodridge, MN.

On October 9, 1957 Corlan married her high school sweetheart, Charles Otto Magnell. They made their home in Grand Forks, ND where Randall, Annette, and Wesley were born. They lived near the race track and worked at a gas station and a dairy farm. In July of 1962, they returned to live on the family farm in Garnes Township north of Oklee where Dennis and Jason were born. They took over the Magnell Family Farm and raised small grains, dairy cows, sheep and had a big garden. She also helped Charles work in the chicken farm operation for their brother-in-law, Lyle Mandt.

Corlan did some more teaching at three country schools from 1967 until 1970, Goodridge, Deer Park Township, and Fosston. In 1976, Corlan and Charles sold the farm and built a home by Oklee. Charles did trucking and Corlan stayed home with their children. Corlan lost the love of her life in a trucking accident in Duluth, MN in 1977.

In 1978, she started working at the Midland Gas Station in Oklee. In 1981 she became a nurse's aide and began work at McIntosh Manor where she remained for twenty-one years.

In September of 1992, Corlan married Robert Kleinschmidt and the couple made their home in Oklee. Later moved to Lake Marion near Hutchinson, MN where she continued to work in a nursing home for ten years and taking care of their cats. In 2012, Corlan and Bob both retired and in October of that year, she lost the second love of her life to a fast-moving cancer. She returned to live in Oklee where she has continued to reside and started working at Peatland Reds Potato Farm.

Corlan enjoyed bowling, fishing, playing cards, playing bingo, garage sales, volunteering at Oklee Senior Site, watch the Minnesota Vikings and attend her kids, grandkids & great-grandkids activities whether at church or school where she was their best cheerleader and biggest fan. Corlan loved to travel, she and Bob had been to 36 states, Canada and Mexico. She never forgot any of her family birthdays.
