Curtis "Moe" Geatz Thief River Falls, MN age 76, died on Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at his residence with his loving family at his side. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 PM on Friday, September 13, 2013 at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Father Rick Lambert presiding. Burial will follow at St. Bernard's Cemetery in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Thursday, September 12, 2013 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held from 12:30 PM until 1:30 PM on Friday at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Thief River Falls, MN. Curtis Wayne Geatz was born on July 24, 1937 in Grand Forks, ND the son of Louis and Wilma (Herberg) Geatz. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Grand Forks, ND. Curtis attended St. Michael's School, graduated from Grand Forks Central High School in 1955, and completed his education at the University of North Dakota graduating with a Degree in Education. While attending UND, Curtis worked as a Carman on the Great Northern Railroad. On December 30, 1958, Curtis was united in marriage to Judith Marie Horton at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. To this union six children were born, Steven, David, Mary, James, Constance and Robert. In late 1960 they moved to Canyonville, OR where Curtis taught school for one year. He then secured a job in Cambridge, MN where he taught school and was instrumental in developing the hockey program. In 1966 the family moved to Thief River Falls, MN where Curtis was hired by the State of Minnesota as a Probation Officer. Curtis retired on July 24, 2002 after 41 years of service. Curtis enjoyed hunting, fishing, baseball, raising his children and spending time with his family and friends at their cabin at Union Lake. His passion was hockey, Curtis enjoyed every aspect of the game from flooding the rinks, playing, coaching, refereeing, to yelling "GO BLUE"! Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Judy Geatz of Thief River Falls, MN; children, Steve (Nora) Geatz of Crookston, MN, David Geatz of Thief River Falls, MN, Mary (Gordy) Myklebust of Thief River Falls, MN, Jim Geatz of Thief River Falls, MN, Connie (Bruce) Folkedahl of East Grand Forks, MN and Bob (Suzie) Geatz of Tofte, MN; grandchildren, Jessica, Hunter, Tanner, Dustin, Ashley, Kelly, Jolene, Tyler, Veronica, and Sierra; great-grandchildren, Trinity and Destiny; siblings, Dorene (Jerry) Smith of Shoreview, MN, Ron (Marge) Geatz of Grand Forks, ND, Jackie Willenberg of Faithville, AR; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Wilma; mother & father-in-law, Ray and Veronica Horton; brother-in-law, Roger Horton.
