Obituary

Curtis W. Johnson passed away February 5, 2008 at Lakewood Health System in Staples, MN from complications with Parkinsons disease.

Funeral service will be 10 AM, Friday, February 8, 2008, at St. Pauli Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls, MN with Reverend Terri Cuppett officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls.

Visitation will be 5 " 8 PM, Thursday, February 7, 2008 at Johnson Funeral service, Thief River Falls with a 7 PM prayer service and for one hour prior to service at the church, Friday.

Curtis Werner Johnson was born Nov. 20, 1933 in Thief River Falls, MN, the son of Anton and Clara (Gunstad) Johnson. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Pauli Lutheran Church, rural Thief River Falls by Rev. Fjelstul. He attended Cheerville school rural Thief River Falls.

On June 1, 1968, Curtis was united in marriage to Marlene Hanson at Trinity Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls by Rev. Reuben Wangberg. The couple farmed and raised dairy and beef cattle on the land his grandfather homesteaded in 1889. Curtis was a certified seed producer for the Minnesota Crop Improvement Association. He raised small grain, sunflowers, potatoes, and other specialty crops.

Curtis was a member of St. Pauli Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council. He also was a member of the Milk Producers Association, served on the St. Hilaire Elevator Board, Pennington County Crop Improvement Association (President for several years), Board Member of Consumers Coop Oil Association, and member of the Eagles. He was an avid curler with the TRF Curling Club, enjoyed playing hockey, and enjoyed flying. Curtis was a devoted supporter of his childrens various activities. He was interested in many different things " he enjoyed experimenting with agricultural practices, watching any sporting events, dancing to old-time music and always kept up on current events.

He had lived the last four years at Staples Care Center near his oldest daughter.

Survivors include two daughters, Susanne (Jody) Hinrichs of Brainerd, MN, and Jana Johnson of Eden Prairie, MN; a son, Paul (Heather) Johnson of Excelsior, MN; six grandchildren, Madeline, Emelia, and Hannah Hinrichs and Owen, Lilia, and Quinn Johnson; and sister, Shirley Johnson of Thief River Falls. Preceding him in death was his wife, Marlene, in 2003, and parents.
