Cyril J. Wavra, 90 of Red Lake Falls, MN died on Sunday, May 31, 1998 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Red Lake Falls, MN.

Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, June 4, 1998 at 10:00 AM in St. Dorothy Catholic Church at Dorothy, MN with Father Gary LaMoine Officiating. Burial will be held in the Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5 " 8 PM with a 7:00 prayer service at the Petterson Funeral Home in Red Lake Falls and also one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.

Cyril Joseph Wavra was born March 23, 1908 at Tabor, MN son of James and Mary (Balek) Wavra. He was raised and attended school in the Euclid area. He worked in the Potato warehouses and the American Crystal Sugar Plant in East Grand Forks. On September 20, 1930 he was united in marriage to Bertha Goosen at Euclid, MN. They farmed in the Euclid area until 1935 when they purchased a farm near Dorothy, MN where he lived and farmed until his retirement in 1973. He also worked at American Crystal Sugar in Crookston, MN from 1955 until that time. Bertha passed away March 5, 1976. Cyril moved into Red Lake Falls in 1993 and the past three years lived at Hillcrest Nursing Home.

Cyril was a member of the St. Dorothy Catholic Church and served on the church council, served on the School Board at District #22 (Dorothy), he also played accordion and was a square dance caller and was active in the square dance club in Dorothy.

He is survived by his children Lois Proulx (Paul); Kenneth Wavra (Helen) and Kathie Peterson (Jack) all of Crookston, MN: 22 grandchildren Greg Proulx, Jennifer Ohr, Michael Proulx, Patricia Amiot, Bradley Proulx, Barbara Rock, Thomas Proulx, Colleen Lunski, Charles Proulx, Daniel Proulx, Michelle Kraft, Nicholas Peterson, Tony Peterson, Kelle Collins, Joel Peterson, Debbie Engebretson, Mark Wavra, Tim Wavra, Vicki Henre, Denise Eggebraaten, Tammy Wild, Barry Wavra: 38 great-grandchildren. One brother Clem Wavra of Red Lake Falls, MN; sister Clara Phelps of Sequim, WA and sisters-in-law Mary Wavra of Red Lake Falls, MN, Pearl and Viola Goosen of Crookston, MN, many nieces and nephews.

Cyril is preceded in death by his wife Bertha, granddaughter Brenda Wavra, three brothers Gordon, Dorn and Lenhart: three sisters Jean Regina Airhart, Marcella Beauregard and Florence Landon.
