Cynthia Koelfgen, 63, of Spearfish, SD, died on Sunday, October 14, 2012 at the Rapid City Regions Hospital in Rapid City, SD after suffering a stroke. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, October 20, 2012 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plummer, MN with Rev. Jonathan Dodson officiating. Burial will follow in the Emardville Cemetery, Emardville Township, Red Lake County, MN. Visitation will be from 5-8 PM, Friday, October 19, 2012 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Saturday. Cynthia Kay Hanson was born on February 23, 1949 in Warren, MN to Myron Duane and Evelyn Doris (Storbakken) Hanson. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. She attended school in Plummer, MN. Cindy was married to Herman Smith in Elk River, MN. They had three children together: Lisa, Larry, and Steve Smith. They lived for several years in Otsego, MN and Cindy worked at Prudential Insurance in the claims department. Herman died in 1985. Cindy was united in marriage to Douglas Francis Koelfgen on August 15, 1987 in Elk River, MN. They lived in Big Lake, MN for 20 years before moving to Spearfish, SD about 5 years ago. During their time in Minnesota Cindy continued working for Prudential Insurance. They then adopted son Daniel and she was a stay at home mom. Later Cindy worked at the Buffalo Clinic in Buffalo, MN. After moving to Spearfish, SD, Cindy worked as a claims processer for the Northern Hills Drug and Alcohol Services. She had a love of the outdoors and spent hours in her garden. She also would take walks and hikes to enjoy nature. She is survived by her husband Douglas Koelfgen, Spearfish, SD, 3 children: Daniel Koelfgen, Spearfish, SD, Lisa Smith, Hutchinson, MN, Larry (Mary) Smith, St. Cloud, MN, daughter in law Stephanie Smith, St. Michael, MN, 2 grandchildren: Amanda and Jacob Smith, St. Michael, MN, mother Evelyn (Edmund)Kostrewski, Thief River Falls, MN, two sisters: Dawn Edlund, Thief River Falls, MN, Roxanne (Dan) Herzog, Connifer, CO, two brothers: Darryl (Sue) Hanson, Thief River Falls, MN, Michael (Kathy) Hanson, Chippewa Falls, WI, and several nieces and nephews.
