Dagny Cecelia Molskness was born November 26, 1914 at Hillsboro, ND, the daughter of John and Sina (Kaldor) Molskness. Her family soon moved to Minnesota and lived on what was referred to the "sand ridge" in Polk County MN, where she attended Black River School to the 8th grade. Many of her memories were related to her school mates and their friendships. Dagny met Chalmer Irvin who was a neighbor and they were married December 1, 1935. They had 3 children - Marjorie, George and Kenneth. In 1942, shortly after Ken was born, Dagny contracted tuberculosis and was sent to the sanitarium at Oakland Park, where the Oakland Park Nursing home is now. Meanwhile, Chalmer moved into Thief River Falls with Marge and George while Ken lived with Grandma and Grandpa Molskness. Dagny survived her bout with TB and Chalmer who was working with Land-O-Lakes, moved the family to Ashby, MN, where he was the hatchery manager. From there, they moved to Hankinson, ND and then to Valley City, ND. While in Valley City, Dagny suffered another bout with TB and was again hospitalized at San Haven Sanitarium in Dunseith, ND near the Canadian border. She once again survived TB. The stay at San Haven left Dagny in a depressed mental state, yearning to be closer to her family in Thief River Falls, so Chalmer took a job as hatchery manager for Shetler's Hatchery in Thief River Falls. In approximately 1954, they bought a farm near Red Lake Falls and the children finished high school in Thief River Falls. Marjorie then moved to the cities, where she graduated from nursing school. George joined the Navy for 4 years and Ken attended Bemidji State College for a while and then relocated to the Minneapolis area. After the children left home, Dagny and Chalmer sold the farm and moved to a small hobby farm at Viking, where they made many good friends. They later moved back to Thief River Falls, where they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1985. In 1990, they moved into Valley Home together. Chalmer passed away in 1992 and Dagny became a resident of Valley Home in Thief River Falls. Dagny has most recently resided at the Thief River Care Center. Dagny was best known for her good humor and good cooking. Dagny is survived by 2 sons, George (Judy) Irvin, Hastings, MN and Kenneth (Bonnie) Irvin, Ham Lake, MN; 8 grandchildren: Murray, Stephen and Mark Muzzall, , Lori Abed, Paul and Holly Irvin, Elisa Lauderdale and Amy Mensch ; 16 great grandchildren: Richard, Sophia, Julianna, Robert, Jacob, Michael and Andrea Muzzall, Reed and Renee Irvin, Christopher, and Kenny Andersen, Brooke Johnson, Kyle Fondie, Tiffany, Storm and Dakota Mensch; brothers: Gerhard and Raymond Molskness and numerous nieces and nephews.
