Obituary

Dale Baril was born on October 1, 1926 in Red Lake Falls, MN, the son of Art and Mayme (Clement) Baril. He attended school in Red Lake Falls, graduating from Lafayette High School in 1944. Following High School Dale attended UND for two years, where he played football for one season. He entered the United States Navy in 1944 and served overseas. Dale was Honorably Discharged in 1946.

On February 15, 1951 Dale was united in marriage to Jean Malwitz in Red Lake Falls. The couple moved to Milwaukee for two years and in August of 1953 moved back to Red Lake Falls, where they have since resided.

Dale worked at Thiberts for a short time and in 1958 he began his employment with the United States Post Office, later becoming Postmaster until his retirement in 1986.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where he served as Treasurer and also serving on many Boards and Committees of the church. He was a member of the American Legion, where he served as Past Commander, member of the Golf Club and Sportsman Club. He enjoyed fishing, especially at Lake of the Woods, hunting and was one of the men instrumental in the renovation of Oak Knolls Golf Course. He was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, Civic and Commerce, Blue Line Club, and was very involved in sports, watching his children and grandchildren play sports, never missing a game. Dale was also an excellent pinochle player, (just ask Gordie Knott). Dale enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will long be remembered for his quick wit and his sense of humor, to the final days.

Dale is survived by four children: Bonnie (Mike) LaCousiere of Bloomington, MN, Kathie (Doug) Knott of Red Lake Falls, MN, John (Laurie) Baril of Warroad, MN and Kent (Wanda) Baril of Grand Rapids, MN; grandchildren: Jill and Matt LaCousiere, Stephanie, Todd, Kurt and Kimberly Knott, Robert and Kory Baril and Hilary and Geoffrey Baril; brothers and sisters: Pauline Guillemette of Red Lake Falls, MN, Mona LaBonte of Grand Forks, ND and Tim (Kathy) Baril of Townsend, WI; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean on March 17, 1989; one grandson, Ryan in 1986; his parents; and one sister, Phoebe Phelps.
