Dalton Hofius ("Hofie"), Red Lake Falls, MN, age 88, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 16, 2017 at his home in Red Lake Falls, MN surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at First Presbyterian Church, Red Lake Falls, MN with Tim Denney officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Red Lake Falls, MN.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM time of sharing on Friday, October 20, 2017 at Johnson Funeral Service in Red Lake Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM on Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church.
Dalton Howard Hofius was born May 18, 1929 at Plummer, MN, the son of Howard and Amanda (Whiteley) Hofius. He was baptized and confirmed in the Presbyterian Church in Brooks, MN. He attended Poplar River Grade School near Brooks, MN and graduated Lafayette High School in Red Lake Falls with the class of 1947.
On June 24, 1950, Dalton was united in marriage to Leona Miller in Red Lake Falls, MN, and to this union six children were born: Linda, Jim, Ron, Dave, Chuck and Patti.
Dalton was owner/operator of Hofie's Standard Service from 1950-1966, Hofius Oil Company from 1963-1979, a rural mail carrier from 1951-1985 and school bus driver from 1985-1991.
He enjoyed baseball, golf, hunting, fishing, playing cards and volunteering in the community.
Hofie served as a church elder and deacon, worked at the Red Lake Falls Fire Department, both as Chief and assistant Fire Chief, belonged to the rural Letter Carrier's Association and was a member of the Red Lake Falls Sportsmen's Club and served as President.
Survived by wife Leona; children: Linda Johansen, Fargo, ND; Jim (JoAnn) Hofius, Steamboat Springs, CO; Ron (Theresa) Hofius, Albuquerque, NM; Dave (Jennefer) Hofius, Big Lake, MN; Chuck (Terry) Hofius, Perham, MN; and Patti (Dean) Grandstrand, St. Cloud, MN; 16 grandchildren: Tricia (Dave) Jorgenson, Shawn Cassatt (Jason Barron), Alexis (Aaron) Abbott, Travis Hofius (Jennifer Sullivan), Misty (Matt) Petrocelli, Curt Henderson (Ludy Gomez), Sam (Jenna) Hofius, Kai Hofius, DJ Hofius, Garrett Adrover, Ashley Hofius (Terry Vanlith), Tanner Hofius, Connor Van Emmerik, Chelsie Grandstrand, Kegan Grandstrand and Dalton Grandstrand; great grandchildren: Alex Jorgenson, Tevon Cassatt, Emmy Barron, Rocco & Isla Petrocelli, Nikolas Hofius, Liam Bartscher, and AshleyJo Dahl; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by a grandson: Dustin Hofius, his parents: Howard and Amanda Hofius, brothers: Marvin Hofius and Milo Hofius; and a sister: Lois Lines.
