Obituary

Daniel Curtis Barth 44, Thief River Falls, died on Sunday, May 10th, 2015 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND surrounded by his loving family. The funeral service to celebrate the life of Daniel Barth will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, May 16th at Evangelical Free Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Pastor Bruce Fischer and Pastor Mel Sich officiating the service. Casket bearers include: Will Leetch, Todd Hannon, Dean Klaven, Keith Myers, Chad Merrill, Paul Burda, Doug Williams and Doug Suronen. Honorary casket bearers are the Maintenance Department at Digi-Key Corporation and friends and co-workers of Digi-Key and Arctic Cat. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls. Visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 pm on Friday, May 15th at Evangelical Free Church with a prayer service at 7:00 pm. Daniel Curtis Barth was born on November, 23, 1970 in Breckenridge, MN, the son of Douglas and Gloria (Spillum) Barth. He was baptized at Doran Presbyterian Church in 1970 while they lived in Campbell, MN. In 1971 they moved to Thief River Falls. He attended school in Thief River Falls, and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1989. After high school, he attended Staples Technical College and graduated with a degree in Machine Trades. He worked in Grand Forks, ND at Tri-Steel Company, Independent Machine Services and Arctic Cat Inc for 15 years. In 2010, he joined Digi-Key Corporation and was currently a member of the Maintenance Department. On November 21st, 1992 he was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Crystal Colleen Sorteberg. To this union, three wonderful sons were born. Twins, Ethan Daniel, Mathew Russell, and Hunter Douglas. Dan had a love for the outdoors; he was passionate about hunting and fishing with his boys. Over the years, he was a very successful hunter and fisherman. He was most proud of the 22 point buck he shot with his bow and his rare cinnamon colored bear. He owned and operated Hunters Haven Guide Service with Troy Edberg. He enjoyed taking his boys out bear baiting, planting his food plots and shed hunting. He spent time going to the Lake to fish, hunt, trap and pulling the kids on the tube. Everyone loved his delicious fish fry's at the Lake. Dan had many talents including, cooking, grilling, gardening, especially his High Tunnel, evening bon fires and overall entertaining. His 1967 Firebird restoration project was a favorite pastime for him. He was always happy helping out with the family farm. Dan had a very big heart and would lend a hand to anyone who needed him. He will be especially remembered for his sense of humor and contagious smile. He was a member of the Evangelical Free Church and was a Sunday School Teacher, a member of the Eagles Club, Sportsman's Club, Archery Range, ATV Club and was a 4-H Volunteer. Survivors include his loving wife, Crystal. Children, Ethan, Mathew and Hunter all of Thief River Falls, Parents, Douglas and Gloria Barth. Three brothers, Kevin (Bonnie) Barth, Ryan (Charity) Barth, Darren (Rachel) Barth. Mother-in-law, Clarice Sorteberg, Brothers-in-law, Michael Sorteberg (Lori), Merle Sorteberg (special friend Deb) all of Thief River Falls, Sister-in-law, Kristine Robson (Robert) of St Hilaire. Special to him, were his many Nieces and Nephews, Kirsten (Alex), Cody, and Travis Barth, Mariah Johnson, Sydney, Emma and Garrett Barth, Jackson, Logan, and Callie Barth, Lisa (Ryan), Noah, Beau, Eli Schlosser, Sean (Amanda) Sorteberg, Dustin, (Jessica), Chelsea (Andrew), Toni (Tyler) Sorteberg, Aaron Robson. Special friends, Ann Skalsky, Shelby Wagner, Gabe Peterson, Lucas Moen, Jonah and Gordon Kaushagen, Luke Mowry, Emma Nelson, Brandi and Gracie Hannon, Austin Stavenes and Dylan Finstad. He was preceded in death by his, Grandparents, Joyce and Ronald Barth, and Emma and Sylvester Spillum. In Lieu of flowers, memorials can be designated to the Barth Boy's College fund at the Soo Select Credit Union. May his memory be blessed.
