Obituary

Darrell Casavan, 57, died on Thursday, July 11, 2002 at his home in Thief River Falls, MN.

Funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, July 16, 2002 at St. Bernards Catholic Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Father Tim McGee presiding. Burial will be in St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery in Terrebonne, MN.

Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Monday, July 15, 2002 at the Johnson-Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls, MN with a 7:00 P.M. prayer service on Monday evening and at the church for one hour prior to services on Tuesday.

Darrell Roger Casavan was born on February 24, 1945 in Crookston, MN, the son of Leonard O. and Demerise (Kelly) Casavan. He was baptized and confirmed into the Catholic Faith at St. Anthonys Catholic Church in Terrebonne. He attended school in Terrebonne and Plummer and graduated from High School in Red Lake Falls.

On April 24, 1965 Darrell was united in marriage to Marlys Schmitz at Terrebonne. He attended Vocational School in Staples, MN, where he earned his Jouneyman License as a machinist. In 1965 they moved the Twin Cities and worked at F. M. C. In 1970 he returned with his family to St. Hilaire, where they purchased a farm. Together the couple farmed small grains and ran a dairy business. He also drove a milk truck and worked as a machinist for Arctic Cat. Darrell was a Jack of all Trades and he could build most anything.

He enjoyed the outdoors and nature, where he hunted and trapped. He also loved animals, photography, dancing and had a great sense of humor. He was always willing to help people and enjoyed taking time to visit friends and family.

He was a member of the Eagles Club, N. R. A. and B. E.

Darrell is survived by one son, Scott Casavan of Warroad, MN; one daughter, Brenda (Ricky) Peterson of Thief River Falls, MN; two grandchildren: Shanielle Peterson and Walker Oliver; his mother, Demerise Haugen of Thief River Falls, MN; three sisters: Darlene Hanson of Thief River Falls, MN, Shirley Thompson of Watertown, SD and Marilyn Casavan of Red Lake Falls, MN; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Leonard in 1980.
