Darrell Herdt, 48 of Brooks, MN passed away tragically in an automobile accident on Friday, November 5, 2021 along with his mother-in-law, Kathy Jenkins of East Grand Forks, MN.

The service to celebrate Darrell's life will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at Johnson Funeral Service, 216 7 ^th Street North, Red Lake Falls, MN with Rev. Timothy Lundeen officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Darrell Jack Charles Herdt was born March 9, 1973 in Minneapolis, MN the son of Harold Jack Charles and Lana Rose (Thompson) Herdt. He was baptized into the Lutheran faith. Darrell graduated from Moorhead High School with the class of 1991.

Following high school, he moved to Montana and briefly attended Culinary School with the Job Corps.

In 1998, Darrell was united in marriage to Edna Guerra in Moorhead, MN and to this union two children were born, Thomas and Thalia. They divorced in 2008.

Darrell had a love of cooking. He worked at the Fryin' Pan in Moorhead for over 20 years. In 2015, Darrell met the love of his life, Kathy (Jenkins) Chaskey, and the couple made their home in Brooks, MN. On July 16, 2018 they were married at a County Park on Maple Lake, near Mentor, MN with Rev. Timothy Lundeen officiating.

After settling in Brooks, Darrell continued working as a cook at Carol's Cozy Bar & Grill, Pioneer Memorial Care Center, Seven Clans Casino and was currently back working at Carol's Cozy.

Darrell had a wonderful relationship with his mother-in-law, Kathy Jenkins. He enjoyed taking them fishing or joking around while they were remodeling the house.

He enjoyed watching the Minnesota Vikings and The Simpsons, working in the yard, caring for his rescue cats and dogs. Darrell was a tender-hearted man and loved all of God's creatures.

Survivors include his loving wife, Kathy of Brooks; children, Thomas and Thalia; siblings, Monica Munro-Harris and Brent Herdt all of the Fargo/Moorhead area; Kathy's children, Wallace "Wally" Chaskey and Mark Chaskey; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents and mother-in-law.
