Obituary

Darrell Allan Stromlund, 74, of Strathcona, Minnesota, passed away on July 30, 2026, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, North Dakota, surrounded by his loving family.

Darrell was born on May 27, 1952, in Roseau County, Minnesota, to Edwin and Delores (Lorenson) Stromlund. He was raised in the Greenbush area and graduated from Greenbush High School in 1970. Following high school, he attended Moorhead State University, where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Health and Physical Education.

On June 15, 1974, Darrell married the love of his life, Debra "Debby" Wilebski. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, farming, and community, raising four sons and creating countless memories over more than five decades of marriage.

Throughout his life, Darrell balanced two callings: education and agriculture. Early in his career, he worked for Polaris and helped build the summer recreation athletic programs in Greenbush. He went on to teach and coach in Badger, Greenbush, and Roseau schools, positively impacting generations of students before retiring in 2016.

While teaching was deeply rewarding to him, farming was Darrell's true passion. He farmed throughout his life and was never happier than when working the land. His dedication, work ethic, and love for agriculture were evident to all who knew him. He also enjoyed coyote and deer hunting with his boys and lifelong friend, Craig.

Darrell was also devoted to youth athletics. Whether coaching, mentoring, officiating, or cheering from the sidelines, he believed strongly in the value of sports and the lessons they taught. He especially enjoyed being involved with basketball and baseball and helping young people develop both skills and character. One of the highlights of his decades of playing ball was playing with the King and his Court “Eddie Feigner”.

Family was at the center of Darrell's life. He treasured time spent with his wife, children, grandchildren and at the cabin. He was known for his quiet strength, generosity, sense of humor, and unwavering support for those he loved. His legacy will live on through the values he passed down and the many lives he touched as a husband, father, grandfather, teacher, coach, farmer, and friend.

Darrell is survived by his wife, Debby Stromlund; sons, Josh (Kara) Stromlund, Aaron (Katie) Stromlund, Chad (Jenny) Stromlund, and Ryan (Kacey) Stromlund; grandchildren, Molly, Riley, Isaac (Peyton), Sawyer, David, Elsie, Joel, Briar, Maggie, and Duke; siblings, Loren (Elaine) Stromlund and Denae (Brad) Blawat; brothers-in-law, Mike (Sue) Wilebski, Todd Wilebski, Russ (Jeri) Boyer, and Randy Boyer; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and cherished friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Delores Stromlund; his father and mother in-law, Willie and Bernice Wilebski; and his brother-in-law, Rick Wilebski.

Darrell will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His life was a testament to hard work, dedication, kindness, and love for family, community, and the land he called home.

"Well done, good and faithful servant."
