Darryl Ray Hanson, age 79, of Thief River Falls, Minnesota, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend, Darryl will be remembered for his steady presence, kind heart, and deep devotion to those he loved.

Darryl was born on September 7, 1947, to Myron "Duane" Hanson and Evelyn Doris (Storbakken) Hanson. He was raised in northwestern Minnesota and graduated from Plummer High School in 1965. Following graduation, he served in the United States Navy.

Darryl was known for his strong work ethic and spent more than 45 years as a mechanic and tire technician. Many people will remember Darryl from his more than 30 years working at Firestone in Thief River Falls.

Darryl was blessed to share 50 years of marriage with the love of his life, Susan Kay (Stock) Hanson. Together they built a home filled with love, laughter, and family. Though Sue preceded him in death, the example of their enduring love remains a cherished part of his legacy.

Family was at the center of Darryl's life. He especially treasured time spent with his grandchildren and took great pride in watching them grow. He enjoyed yardwork, building and woodworking projects, feeding and watching birds, spending time outdoors, but he will mostly be remembered for his kindness and always helping others.

Darryl is lovingly remembered by his daughters, Marissa Hanson and Kaija (Jason) Kirby; grandchildren, Sebastian Hanson (Korben Coffman), Dexter Kirby, and Else Kirby; his mother, Evelyn Kostrzewski; siblings, Mike (Kathy) Hanson, Roxanne Herzog, and Dawn Edlund; brothers-in-law, Doug Koelfgen and Brad Stock; sister-in-law, Marsha Kittelson; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sue Hanson; his fathers, Duane Hanson and Edmund Kostrzewski; his sister, Cindy Koelfgen; his brother-in-law, Greg Stock; and many other cherished relatives.

A Celebration of Life for Darryl will be held at 4:00 PM on Saturday, October 24, 2026 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN, with visitation one hour prior to the service.
