Darryl Wayne Johnson, 72, died on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 near his home in Thief River Falls, MN.

Memorial Services will be 2:00 PM, Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at Telemarken Lutheran Church, rural Goodridge, MN with Rev. John Wollenzien officiating. Burial will be in the Telemarken Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the memorial service on Wednesday.

Darryl Wayne Johnson was born on June 1, 1938 to Willard and Ingeborg (Larson) Johnson at home in Pennington County, MN. He attended school in Thief River Falls. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. After high school, Darryl enlisted in US Navy. He served his country for over 20 years in the Navy. He served in several places all over the world. One of his favorite memories was when his ship picked up the Apollo 14.

After his service, he lived in several places including Chicago, IL, Virginia Beach, VA, and Blaine, MN. He worked at Proctor & Gamble in Chicago, and Tele-media in Virginia Beach. He returned to Thief River Falls in 1986 and worked at Northern Pride, Marvin Windows, and retired from Arctic Cat.

Darryl was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed spending summers at Lake of the Woods at Morris Point fishing. He liked to share his fishing expertise and guided people when he could. Darryl had a love for gadgets. He loved to tinker with small engines. NASCAR and professional sports were a highlight for him. He would rather help other people instead of himself. He had unending patience and love for his family. Dancing was pure enjoyment for him. He was a lifetime member of the VFW.

Darryl is survived by seven children: Brenda Gibson, Otsego, MN; Sheryl (Mark) Swanson, Otsego, MN, Michelle (Richard) Scott, St. Hilaire, MN, Rebecca (Duane) Skibicki, Warroad, MN, Michael Johnson, Monticello, MN, Sandra Wahlbeck, Lawton, OK, Sonia Yanez, Corpus Christi, TX; mother Ingeborg Johnson, Thief River Falls, MN, 5 siblings: Sharon Durisseau, Rochester, MN, Yvonne Pederson, Thief River Falls, MN, Richard (Pati) Johnson, Nisswa, MN, Jan (Dan) Elleson, San Antonio, TX, Sheila Johnson, Thief River Falls, MN, 21 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and friends.

Darryl was preceded death by his father, a sister in infancy, and three grandsons.
