Dave Stern, 57 of Thief River Falls, MN, formerly of Bemidji, MN, passed away on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at his home in Thief River Falls, MN.

A Visitation will be held from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM on Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN.  A Graveside Service will be held at 4:30 PM at Johnson Funeral Service.

Dave Allen Stern was born on June 12, 1961 in Bemidji, MN, the son of Gene Stern and Lois Beier.  He was baptized at Zion Lutheran church in Blackduck, MN.  Dave graduated from Blackduck High School in 1979.  Then he attended Moorhead State University and finished his degree at Bemidji State University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology.

From 1992 until 2005 he worked for the MN DNR, Bemidji Division, as a Helitack Crew Member.  In 1998 he received an award from the state of Florida for his service during Operation Fire Storm.  After he retired, he worked various jobs in Bemidji, one of his favorites was Gander Mountain.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and all sports.  He also coached little league baseball.

Dave is survived by his mother, Lois Beier; sister, Raelene (Arne) Berg; brother, Rick Beier; brother, Brad Townsend; niece, Kira Beier; nephew, Adam Berg.  Dave is also survived by a friend, Jana Hendrickson and her sons Sam and Max.

He was preceded in death by his father, Gene Stern; maternal grandparents, Walter and Esther Weichselbaum and his paternal grandparents, Bill and Gerty Stern.
