David Filas of Middle River, MN passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at his residence with his loving wife by his side, at the age of 74.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held for David at 11:00AM on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls, MN with Father Rick Lambert presiding.

David Bruce Filas was born on April 30, 1946 in St. Paul, MN, the son of John Filas and Gladys (Klersy) Filas.  He was baptized as a baby at the St. Paul Cathedral.  David graduated from North St. Paul High School in 1965.

On June 10, 1989 David was united in marriage to Renee Zimmermann in Mounds View, MN.  Together they resided in Circle Pines, MN for 15 years, then moved to Middle River, MN where they have since made their home.

David worked at Country Club Markets for 21 years.  He worked with his cousins doing carpentry and plumbing jobs until 1989 when he became employed by Northern Iron in St. Paul for the next 15 years.

David was an avid hunter, especially ducks and deer.  He loved hunting with his cousins.  David loved camping and fishing, and was a lifelong fan of the Minnesota Vikings.

David is survived by his wife, Renee Filas of Middle River, MN; children, Susan Barnett of Florida, Robert of Texas, and Alexandria "Ali" (Scott) Delger of South Carolina; granddaughters, Anna Delger and Audrey Delger; brother, Jerry (Bev) Filas of St. Paul, MN; sisters, Carla Koch of Glenville, MN and Joann (Ron) Keller of Lindstrom, MN; brothers-in-law, Jerry (Camilla) Zimmermann of Richfield, MN, Kenny (Pat) Zimmermann of Sioux Falls, SD; several nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; step-father, Joseph Wiener; brother, Ronald; sister, Sharon Brandt; nephew, Rick Filas; niece, Valerie Trog; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Filas, Marlis Haubrick; brothers-in- law, Bob Koch and Fred Haubrick.
