David Oscar Qualey, 68, of Goodridge, Minnesota, passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2026.

David was born on November 14, 1957, to Oscar Theodore Qualey and Inga Helen (Tinnesand) Qualey. He grew up in the Gully and Gonvick area, attending Gully Elementary School and later graduating from Gonvick High School, Class of 1976.

In January of 1978 David was united in marriage to Lisa Sellers and to this union three children were born: Nicole, Justin, and Zachary.

David spent much of his working life as a pipeline mechanic, taking great pride in his work and his ability to fix just about anything. A hardworking man with a strong work ethic, he was equally at home in the shop, on the farm, or outdoors enjoying the things he loved most.

While working overseas in Brazil, David met the love of his life, Maria A. Rocha. They were married on March 4, 2000. Together they enjoyed many adventures including trips to Europe and South America.

On August 15, 2026, David passed away unexpectedly at home. He will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his practical wisdom, and his enjoyment of life's simple pleasures.

David enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing, gardening, reading, watching westerns, collecting and discussing firearms, and spending time exploring flea markets in search of unique treasures. He was a member of I.U.O.E. Local 150 and the Gideons. His faith was an important part of his life. He was baptized and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church and maintained a deep appreciation for his Christian faith throughout his life.

David is survived by his beloved wife of 27 years, Maria Qualey; his children, Nicole (Kyle) Syverson, Justin (Nikki) Qualey, and Zachary (Hannah) Qualey; 16 grandchildren; 1 great-granddaughter; and his siblings, Gerri Staye, Helen Klopp, Sandi Buermann, Joanne Houts, Pat Westling, Carol Eidelbes, and Elaine Anderson. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who truly loved him and will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar Theodore and Inga Helen Qualey; his brother, Howard Qualey; and his sisters, Evelyn Myrum, Opal Eck, and Bette Ost.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, with prayer service at 6:30 PM on Friday, August 21, 2026 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at Epiphany Station in Thief River Falls, MN.

Family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate his life, share memories, and honor a man who devoted himself to his family, his faith, and the work and hobbies he loved.

David's legacy of hard work, generosity, and love of family will live on in all who knew him.
