David N. Scott died on Thursday, August 30, 2012 at his home in Thief River Falls. He was recently diagnosed with advanced stages of liver cancer. His heart, badly damaged through the years and full of scars but still filled with love, knew just when to surrender to prevent any more suffering. At the time of his passing, his age was 61 years, 11 months and 13 days. His humor and sparkling eyes will be sadly missed. Memorial Services will be held on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at 7:00 PM at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the memorial service. David N. Scotty' Scott was born on September 17, 1950 in Gary, Indiana to parents Ken and Elsie Scott. Dave lived in Hobart, Indiana until 1964 when his family moved to Black Island Camp in Morson, Ontario, Canada, a resort build by his dad. At the end of summer, the family chose to settle in Baudette, Minnesota where the kids would attend school. By that time, Dave had a sister, Shirley, and a little brother, Don. Dave attended Baudette High School until he graduated in 1968. Upon graduating he moved to Moorhead, Minnesota where he attended Chef's Training at the Vocational School. He worked at several restaurants and eventually Dave settled in Red Lake Falls, Minnesota while working at Sullivan's Restaurant. On September 1, 1972, he was married to Hollie Johnson of Lake Bronson, Minnesota and they made their home in Thief River Falls. Dave began at the original Arctic Cat as a security guard and worked numerous positions through the years from line worker to supervisor and eventually retired as a QA inspector. He retired from Arctic Cat after more than 25 years. Outside of his career at Arctic Cat, he was involved in several business ventures that included Scotty's Ye Old Pub and Grub in Stephen, a restaurant in Newfolden, The Lock, Stock and Barrel Gun Shop, and was the manager of the Eagles Club in Karlstad. Scotty' strived to fill his days with things he loved. He took numerous trips on his motorcycles and put miles on "Roadie" (his pet name for his Crossfire convertible). He had a passion for cruisin locally and across the country. Often he was joined by his friend Alan Smitty' Smith of Stephen. Some of Scotty's other passions included metal detecting, hunting, fishing, and woodworking He had a strong, loving relationship with his family and placed the highest regard on his many friendships. One of his many gifts was his ability to tell stories using his wry sense of humor. Dave is survived by his mother Elsie Scott of Prescott, WI, loving partner Doris Flanagan of Thief River Falls, ex-wife Hollie Scott of Viking, two sisters Shirley (Rod) Burke of Las Vegas, NV and Judy (Burton) Novak of Holyoke, MA, one brother Don (Lu) of Hastings, MN, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
