Obituary

David Waldo Sheridan, 91, of Thief River Falls, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at Sanford Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

David was born on October 11, 1934, in Minnesota to Linton Cathie Sheridan and Grace Devern (Phelps) Sheridan. He grew up in the Thief River Falls area and attended Lincoln High School. David proudly served his country in the United States Army Reserve, retiring with the rank of Sergeant First Class.

First and foremost, Davids’ strong faith and belief in God was the driving force in his life. A devout Christian that lived Gods word daily.

A hardworking and dedicated man, David built his career as a plumber. Beyond his work, he was known for his strong work ethic and his ability to fix nearly anything. He also took great pride in his craftsmanship, including designing and building the home they lived in, built a boat and travel trailer. He purchased and rebuilt an airplane. In his retirement he did woodworking, ceramics and was a very avid reader.

David lived a full and adventurous life. He had a passion for flying and boating, and he was happiest when he could share stories with others. Known as a master storyteller, he had a gift for bringing people together with humor, wisdom, and warmth.

He was united in marriage to Janice Maomi (Teigland) Sheridan, the love of his life. Together they built a loving family. Janice preceded him in death, along with his parents, Linton and Grace Sheridan; his brothers, Joseph, Edwin, and Gordon; and his sister, Christine.

David is lovingly remembered by his children: RaeLynn, Renae Hanson, Tim (Anne), Tammy (Kenny) Stevenson, and Scott (Lorie). He was a proud grandfather to Reuben (Rebekah) Hanson, Gabriel Hanson, Kalieb Hanson, Levi (Karrie) Hanson, Noah Hanson (Adiya), Bree Sheridan, Stefan Sheridan, Hannah (Kevin) Moderer, Oliver Porter, Samantha Sheridan, Micah (Molly) Sheridan, Hailey Sheridan (Tanner Anderson), and Jace Sheridan.

He was also a cherished “Grandpaw” to his great-grandchildren: Lydia, Maggie, Norah, Joseph Hanson, Lenora and Finley Moderer, Dawson, August, Henry, Sophia Sheridan, Emerie Parker, Ensley Rud, Evelyn Woodbury, and a baby girl Hanson expected in July.

David is further survived by his sisters-in-law: Doris Sheridan, Beverly Doss, Sandra Anderson, Irene Teigland, Darlene Stewart; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

David will be remembered for his strong spirit, his love for family, and the many stories he shared that will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him.

Funeral service for David will be held 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN with Pastor Seth Johnson officiating.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Burial will be held at a later date at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN.
