David Swanson, age 72, died on Saturday, November 8, 2008 at the family deer camp north of Middle River, MN.
Memorial Services will be held 11:00 AM, Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at Zion Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls, MN with Rev. Gary Johnson officiating.
David M. Swanson was born October 1, 1936 in Stephen, MN on the family farm to O.G. Red and Helene (Parr) Swanson. He was baptized and confirmed at the Big Woods Church near Oslo, MN. He attended school and graduated Oslo High School in 1955.
He married his high school sweetheart June Hoff on September 12, 1954 at Oak Park Church in rural Oslo, MN. They made their home on the family farm for a short time and then moved to Virginia, MN and lived there for 16 years. In 1972, they made their home in Thief River Falls. David worked for lumber companies in the Virginia, MN area. When they moved to Thief River Falls he and his wife owned and operated the Hi-By restaurant for four years. After the restaurant business, he was self employed as a handyman around town. He retired due to ill health.
David enjoyed wood working. He made his own leadhead jigs for fishing. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He and his family built a hunting shack north of Middle River. He served as a scout master for three years. He was a member of the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association. He was also member of Zion Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, June, Thief River Falls, MN, 4 children, David Jr. (special friend Kristi Deins), Thief River Falls, MN, Keith (Cindy), Thief River Falls, MN, Kathy (Todd) Borgstrom, Delano, MN, Dean, Thief River Falls, MN, grandchildren:
Kristis children, Josh, Blair, Nina, Aaron, Noah, and Sam, and Kristen (Josh) Granli, their children, Alex, Anthony, Avery, Neaveh, Megan (special friend Eric), their son Vincent, and Ryan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother Ron.
