Obituary

Dayton Silk Thief River Falls, MN age 95, died on Friday, March 14, 2014 at Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine, MN. Funeral service will be Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at 10:30 AM at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Rev. John Golv and Rev. Robert Dahlen officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN. Dayton James Silk was born July 29, 1918 at Sauk Center, MN and was adopted by Norman and Mathilda (Grondahl) Silk. He attended school in Thief River Falls, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1936. Dayton was united in marriage to Orda Urdahl, December 31, 1941 in Thief River Falls at the Reverend E.L. Tungseth's parsonage. The couple made their home in Thief River Falls. Dayton worked in gas sales and service for a time, then for the city dairy, Land O' Lakes and finally for Bridgeman's retiring in 1975. Orda passed away December 16, 1994 in Thief River Falls. Following Dayton's retirement, Dayton and Orda participated in cleaning, painting and wall papering in commercial buildings and homes. On January 4, 1997, Dayton married Arlyne Hyland at Ekelund Lutheran Church, rural Thief River Falls, MN and the couple made their home in Thief River Falls. Dayton was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls. He was known for his Christmas display's and enjoyed people's smiles once they saw the displays. Survivors include his wife, Arlyne, Thief River Falls, MN; step children Alan (Mary) Hyland, Arlette (Virgil) Defreece, Aldon (Trudy) Hyland, Arden (Shelly) Hyland, son-in-law Gary Bruggeman;grandchildren Wendy (Pete) Manning, Keith Hyland, Bret (Debbie) Hyland, Justin Brierly, Michelle (Paul) Kasprick, Shane (Kelly) Defreece, Guy (Nadine) Bruggeman, Jared (Maria) Bruggeman, Aaron Hyland, Danelle (Jamie) Ayott, Robbie (Emily) Hyland, Kiley (Dan) Hicks, Kasey (Justin) Douvier, Derrek Hyland: great-grandchildren Peter, Shannon, Nathanial, Stacy, Bryce, Anthony, Danielle, Alyssa, Jordyn, Shane II (Jessica), Dylan, Jade, Baylor, Brooks, Lukas, Micah, Logan, Reese, Madeleine, Adlee, Bentley, Holden: great-great-grandchildren Selina, Jasmine, Carson and Autumn. Lundeen and Urdahl Families and many friends. He is preceded in death by his wife, Orda; daughter, Mary Margaret; his parents; step daughter Audrey Bruggeman; sister, Dorothy Silk; and Orda's family, Emil and Luella Lundeen, Clenora and Cliff Storholm, Noble and Olive Urdahl, Vernon and Gayle Urdahl, Ludolf and Orville Urdahl .
