Obituary

Dean Anderson of Newfolden, MN, 68, died Saturday October 25, 2014 at Sanford Hospital, Fargo, ND, surrounded by his loving family. The funeral service to celebrate the life of Dean Anderson will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Newfolden, MN with Rev. Cathie Rhodes officiating and Pastor Sheila Michaels assisting. Burial will be held at Spruce Valley Cemetery, rural Middle River, MN. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Friday, October 31, 2014 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM on Saturday at church. Dean Harvey Anderson was born on July 18, 1946 in Thief River Falls, MN the son of Harvey and Florence (Moen) Anderson. He was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Newfolden, MN. Dean graduated from Newfolden High School in the class of 1964 and he celebrated his 50 year class reunion in July, 2014. On a beautiful day in 1963, Dean met his future wife, Mary at the Marshall County Fair in Warren, MN. On August 12, 1967, Dean was united in marriage to Mary Engevik at the United Lutheran Church in Gatzke, MN. They made their home in Middle River, MN where they lived for one year and in 1968 they moved to a farm near Newfolden, MN. Dean worked as a heavy equipment operator for road construction and helped build Interstate 29 among many other roads in the area. In 1977, he and Mary purchased his parent's farm, the farm he grew up on, where the family farmed and raised livestock. In 1985, Dean began working for the Newfolden Co-op Elevator in Newfolden later in Strandquist, MN. Due to health reasons, Dean retired, but continued to ranch. Dean had a life-long interest in horses where he competed in horse shows and won many team-penning buckles and trophies. He was a Minnesota Team Penning State Champion. He enjoyed going west on trips to horse sales with his friends. Dean loved to share jokes, have breakfast at the Newfolden Café, visit at the bank and Newfolden Co-op. He loved spending time to visit with his family and friends. Dean was a very dedicated father and grand-father, his daughters and grand-daughters were the light of his life. He was a life-long member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Newfolden, MN where he served on church council for a number of years. He was also an active member of the Newfolden Lions Club and Newfolden Rod & Gun Club. Survivors include his wife, Mary Anderson of Newfolden, MN; 3 loving daughters, Kara Anderson of Minneapolis, MN, Leah Anderson of Staples, MN and Jill (Ben) Nelson of Clearbrook, MN; 3 granddaughters, Libby-age 11 (Grandpa's Sidekick), Molly-age 5 (Grandpa's Blonde Bombshell), and Maddy-age 5 months (Grandpa's Cuddle Bug); brother, Harlen (Geraldine) Anderson of Hardin, MT, sister, Beverly Erickson of Middle River, MN; and numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws, family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, Clarence and Elida Moen and Beda Anderson, Brother-in-law Milton Erickson shortly after Dean.
