Obituary

Delaine Hammer passed away on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at her rural Thief River Falls, MN home.

Funeral service will be held Friday, May 19, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Bethany Lutheran Church rural Thief River Falls, MN with Reverend Kristin Ostercamp Officiating. Burial will be held at Bethany Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Thursday, May 18, 2017 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN 5 – 8 PM with a 7:00 prayer service and also one hour prior to the service on Friday.

Delaine Kay Fjeld was born October 18, 1949 daughter of Alvin and Willia (Race) Fjeld in Thief River Falls, MN. She was raised in rural Goodridge (Star Township), where she attended Goodridge High School graduating in 1967. Delaine furthered her education at AVTI in Thief River Falls and received her degree in Cosmetology. She owned and operated Hair Etc. in Thief River Falls, MN.

On June 14, 1980 she was united in marriage to John Hammer at Bethany Lutheran Church rural Thief River Falls. To this union Maren was born. She operated her beauty shop till the spring of 1985 to become a stay at home mother. On September 14, 2011, Delaine's Grandson Bradley was born. He was so special to her, she loved spending time with him and she visibly lit up around him.

In August of 1965, Delaine and her younger sister Renae hopped on the train in Thief River Falls and traveled to Minneapolis to attend the first ever Beatles concert in Minnesota at the Met Stadium. She often told the story of this great adventure with enthusiasm. Delaine was an accomplished artist, having some of her drawings published. She created, coloring pages for Maren, along with her nieces and nephews, by drawing various characters and images. She enjoyed photography and often shared her photos with others. In her earlier years, she enjoyed gardening, sharing her produce with neighbors, and tending to her yard (lawn mowing, planting trees, and cleaning in the woods). She was a Sunday school teacher, helped with the ladies aid, and was 4-H leader with the Kratka 4-H club. Delaine was continually learning and reading.

She is survived by her devoted husband of nearly 37 years, John Hammer of Thief River Falls, MN; daughter Maren (Robby) Molskness of Thief River Falls, MN; grandson Bradley; sisters Wavell Sorenson of Plummer, MN and Renae (John) Fjeld Accardo of Weyerhaeuser , WI; Sister-in-law Ruth (Gary) Halverson, brothers-in-law Dale (Kathy) Hammer, Lynn (Carol) Hammer; nieces and nephews, Russell Sorenson (Marty), Rebecca (Tom) Willett, Karl (Rita) Sorenson, Sheila (Tony) Gerardy, Brea (Jeff) Fritsche, Ashley (Brian) Loe, Brittany (Blake) Christianson, Thomas Halverson, Andrew Halverson, Emma (Andy) Fox, Lindsey (Alex) Prange, and Kelly (Dave) Lindseth; along with several great nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her parents Alvin Fjeld and Willia, her step-father, Gene Prestegaard, in-laws Arnold and Grace Hammer, and brother-in-law Lloyd Sorenson.
