Delano Halvorson Plummer, MN age 79 died on Thursday, May 9, 2013 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, May 13, 2013 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plummer, MN with Rev. Jonathan Dodson officiating. Burial will follow at Clearwater Cemetery, rural Plummer, MN. Military honors will be provided by the Plummer American Legion Post 623. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Sunday, May 12, 2013 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plummer, MN. Visitation will also be held from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM on Monday at the church. Delano Franklin Halvorson was born on November 23, 1933 in Emardville Township, rural Red Lake County, MN the son of Edward and Lillie (Milligan) Halvorson. He was baptized and confirmed in the Presbyterian faith and attended school in Plummer, MN. Delano entered into service with the United States Army in 1954. He was stationed overseas in Stuttgart, Germany and was Honorably Discharged in 1956 as an SP 4. Following his discharge, Delano returned to work in western North Dakota putting power lines into the oil fields. On January 20, 1973, Delano was united in marriage to Lee Thomson Zimpel in Plummer, MN at the Brooks-Plummer Presbyterian Church. They made their home on a farm in Emardville Township, rural Plummer. Together along with their daughter Sandy they raised beef cows and eventually had a dairy farm. In 1989 they moved into Plummer where they have continued to reside. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, going to the casino, playing & calling bingo at the Legion. Delano was an active member of Ducks Unlimited, American Legion Post, Plummer Lions Club and the Plummer Sportsman's Club. Survivors include his loving wife of 40 years, Lee of Plummer, MN; daughter, Sandra (Larry) Rohlf of Thief River Falls, MN; grandchildren, Derek Gustafson of St. Louis Park, MN, Jessica (Nicholas) Fernholz of Fargo, ND, and Lucas Rohlf of Portland OR; and many other relatives and friends. Delano is preceded in death by his parents.
