Obituary

Delpha Comstock, 79, died on Sunday, March 23, 2009 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.

Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, March 28, 2009 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls, MN with Rev. John Voelker officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls, MN.

Visitation will be from 5-8 PM on Friday, March 27, 2009 at Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls, MN with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Saturday.

Delpha Maida Anderson was born on March 27, 1929 in Mavie, MN, Cloverleaf Township, Pennington County, MN. The family lived there until WWII when they moved to a farmstead near Grygla, MN. They raised a lot of different livestock from cattle to geese. Delpha attended rural school near the farmstead through the 4th grade, then she attended the Goodridge school through the 8th grade. She rented a room in Goodridge and attended one year of high school, but couldnt afford the rent. So at the age of 15, Delpha moved to Thief River Falls, where she worked as a waitress at the Rex Caf, followed by the Fountain Caf, the Mint Caf, where she met her future husband Howard.

Delpha was united in marriage to Howard Francis Comstock on June 25th, 1949 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN. They lived in the Thief River Falls all of their married life including her current home on Tindolph Ave since 1955.

Delpha worked for Elmer Poole and bought the business and became a business owner, naming it the Viking Bar and Caf. The business moved a few times and ended up on north LaBree Avenue. After selling her business, she worked the day shift for Inter County Nursing Service for 7 years while working the night shift at the Municipal Liquor Store in Thief River Falls. She worked there for 20 years, retiring in 1991. Delpha became a certified reflexologist in 1979, and ran a reflexology business out of her home for 29 years.

In 1957, Delpha became a member of the VFW Auxiliary, and was the auxiliary president in 1963-64. She became a life member in 2002. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, listening to church and visiting with family and friends.

Delpha is survived by 4 sons: Dennis (Karen) Comstock, Thief River Falls, Dale Comstock (special friend Diane Gilbertson), Washkish, MN, Daryl (Tami) Comstock, Grygla, MN, Arden Comstock, Naples, FL, 1 daughter Sandra (Scott) Johnson, Thief River Falls, MN, 23 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, 3 sisters, Thelma Feragen, Thief River Falls, MN, Ovedia Stratton, Grygla, MN and Stella Nesland, Thief River Falls, MN and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Howard in 2004, 3 brothers Melford, Alvin, and LeRoy Anderson, 2 sisters Ava Anderson (in infancy), Myrtle Helgeland, 1 granddaughter Amy Lynn Rux.
