By the Grace of God, Delphine Rose Herman was born May 11, 1937 in Hankinson, ND, the daughter of Rose Herrmann.  She was baptized in the name of the Triune God at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Hankinson, on July 18, 1937 by Reverend J. P. Klausner and confirmed at Immanuel, by Reverend Gerhard Michael, on March 18, 1951. She was raised by her grandparents, Albert and Minnie Herrmann, and her aunt Esther Herrmann.

She attended Hankinson Public School and graduated in 1955.  She was active in school in music - band membership as a snare drummer, solo-duet-trio, and the high school chorus.  Delphine also participated in theatre and in her senior year, she served as Editor for the "Pirate" 1955 yearbook.  Following graduation, Delphine began employment at Bell Telephone in St. Paul, MN as operator and then, service representative in the business office.

On February 20, 1960 she was joined in marriage to Michael Mongoven at Webster, SD.  She transferred from St. Paul to Fargo, ND with Bell where she began employment as a teller and a service representative.  Upon Mike's graduation from MSU in Moorhead, MN, she resigned and the couple moved to Harvey, ND for a year, then to Arthur, ND for 5 years.  The couple then moved to Thief River Falls, where they have since resided.

After their children, Dana and Jeffery entered school, Delphine returned to her career at Northwestern Bell in Thief River Falls. Her duties started out as operator, service assistant, force scheduling clerk, repair clerk (her favorite job) and assignment clerk.  Upon the closing of the office in Thief River Falls, the company transferred her to Duluth in 1985 as Assignment Clerk; and in 1988 Delphine transferred to Fargo and retired in 1996 from the Engineering Department.  She retired with 34 years of successful service.  In 1998, she began employment with Green Funeral Service, which is now Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls.  Through all the years, Delphine developed many lasting friendships and memories.

She has remained a very active member of St. John Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls and Ruth/Rachel Circle and, held various positions in the church, at present the co-chair of the Altar Guild.  Delphine was an avid reader, a member of a Birthday Club, a member of Friends of the Library, a member of the Pennington County Humane Society, and enjoyed traveling.  Family time is very important to her.
